Media Coverage for Amateur Boxing

Post by Dennis »

Media coverage for our sport is so important. The more it gets into the media, the more people hear about it and the more likely it is that our membership will increase and so will our fan base. Everyone needs to work hard to do their part in their hometowns.

Here are a few stories from today. These are hard to get in a lot of areas. Our local paper wouldn't give coverage for boxing when it just involved a state Silver Gloves tournament. They didn't even publish stories with some national junior tournaments. So kudos to the people that made these stories happen as they will help our sport. Note that these are just small stories, but every little bit helps.

A story in today's news about an amateur boxing show in Saratoga Springs, NY. These are the kinds of stories that help support amateur boxing and helps attendance at the shows. Now if the newspaper will do an article about the show with results it would really be helpful. Often its one or the other - an article beforehand or one after the show. Getting both is a real coup.

Here's a write w/ actual details bout by bout. Don't see this too often, but much more enjoyable that just results:

You are correct. That is a nice article. I really like it when you get more info than just the results, but it requires a lot more work. However, the more info you provide to the media, the more likely it is that they will do a story about the boxers.
