Stevenson may have beaten Holmes and Bobick and Tate in the amateurs, but you got to admit that all those guys were not that great as amateurs---also, Stevenson was kayoed by Bobick, and for the most part was beating up on teenagers on the island.
I think if Stevenson could be kayoed in the amateurs by someone as limited as Bobick, and he was one of the best of all time, that against the 1961 Johansson, he would have faced a similar end. Three, four rounds, and the world of the pros is a world of difference. Even Laszlo Papp, another 3 time gold medal winner, had to have quite a few pro bouts to gain the European title at middleweight.

I think Johannson beats Stevenson in six to seven rounds. Many people make Stevenson to be this monster, and he was a great amateur, but was kayoed by Igor Vysotsky, given hell by Dokes, Stinson, Jimmy Clark, and his own countryman Angel Milian.I would have loved to see him fight Greg Page or Mitch Green, they may have beaten him.
