Napa/McDonnell - Jan 22nd British title fight

Post by GlobalBox »

Just noticed this on Boxrec and wondered what anyone thought, (especially you Martin as you will no doubt have inside knowledge on both)

Realise at face value some might think Napa will just know too much and he probably will but there seems to me to be similarities in height and reach between McDonell and Bouziane and we saw what the Frenchman did to Dappa.

Also McDonnell's performance against Haskins in losing by a point and many thought he won it was put into perspective somewhat by the fact Broadhurst could barely lay a glove on Haskins last week.

I think this promises to be a cracking little fight and would give McDonnell a big chance in this one if he produces his best form.

Any views?

I aint seen McDonnell fight but looking at his record and from what i hear he aint bad at all.
Not many people stop Antony Hanna or James Ancliff, Napa has a Great Chin, the way he rides the Shots is Pure Class.. I cant see Napa losing at British Level tho even giving away 7" in height...

Have seen Jamie a couple of times and I think he has a real chance here, although I know I am in the minority. Is this the best weight for him, he is a tall lad and I was always surprised he got down to the Super-Fly limit.

Was the weight a problem in his two defeats, I was a little surprised he did not beat Edwards to be honest.

He has such a huge height and reach advantage against Napa, whilst not giving anything away this has to feature in your game plan.

Has training gone well, any sparring partner info?

There we go, thats enough to be going on with.

Cheers

We was all surprised he got beat by Edwards, Jamie was only 20yrs old at the time and had only 8 pro fights, never bein
by 6 rnds.So in the back of his mind he was curiouse of doing the 12, i think it was a big step for him he didnt understand
the importance of the british title and what it means to fighters. He was fresh out the amatures and didnt take boxing too serious.
It was hard work keeping him in the gym etc.
He had no sparring what so ever for those defeats, and his diet was very poor, basicly beans on toast.
Now he is alot more mature and grown up and understands what you have to to win these big fights,he never misses a training
session and as the desire to go all the way.
Training is going well he only had a week off from his last fight 4th dec TKO1 james antcliff
He wont be sparring for another few weeks yet, yes we have a few names who we would like to spar so we will mention that
when its bein arrange and let you know how its going.
Jamie is more than cappable of winning this fight and bein around a long time the kid is only 23 he was a cracking amature winning a school boy title 2 j abas, boys clubs final(couldnt box injured) 2 golds at multi nations and a bronze in junior olympics.
The difference from now n before is Jamie was playing at the game now theres nobody more seriouse.

Cheers

Thanks very much for the info and please do keep us informed how its going, I really like Napa and can see the argument for him being too cute for Jamie, I just have a feeling this could be the right time, however, for Jamie to make a very very strong argument here.
