Best journeymen fighters
Name some journeymen fighters that caused a few upsets and gave the better guys harder fights than they wanted. They can be any weight but have to be guys that never won a title.
I'll name two heavyweights to get going...
Ross Purrity 31(27)-20-3
6'3" and normally 250lbs and above. A big puncher with a good chin, always a dangerous combination.
Stoppage win over the 24-0 Wladimir Klitschko
Managed a 10 round draw with Tommy Morrison who was 41-2-0 at the time.
Stoppage win over the Joe Hipp
Lost decisions to Kirk Johnson, Hasim Rahman, Eddie Chambers, Chris Byrd, Dimitrenko and Michael Grant, all were unbeaten at the time. Also lost decisions Corrie Sanders and Larry Donald.
Mike 'The Bounty' Hunter 26(8)-7-2
Not a big puncher but skilful and defensive and had a good chin, only stopped once in his last ever fight by Brian Nielsen
Wins over Pinklon Thomas, Dwight Qawi, Alexander Zolkin, Tyrell Biggs, Ossie Ocasio, Jimmy Thunder
Draw with one time prospect James Pritchard who was 11-0 at the time
Decision win over Oliver McCall
Lost decision to Francois Botha and a win over Buster Mathis Jr later overruled to a NC

I have always liked Jesse Fergusson. Though he has been a title
challenger and a contender, he is also the cinderella story for
Journeymen.

Gotta mention George "Scrapiron" Johnson. Gave some of the best 70s heavyweights a helluva time. You didnt want to get in there with him unless you could really fight.

Sticking with 90s heavyweights, I'll submit Garing Lane, Frankie Swindell, Everett "Bigfoot" Martin, Levi Billups, Mike Dixon.
At a slightly higher level, how about Maurice Harris.
Re: Best journeymen fighters
I was reading an interview of Tommy Morrison and in it he stated that Ross was the strongest opponent he ever faced. That says a lot from a guy who had been in the ring with Mercer, Foreman, Lewis, and Ruddock.

I recall Larry Holmes once said that while Earnie Shavers hit like he came from another planet, Randall 'Tex' Cobb was the strongest man Holmes ever faced. Surprised me, considering Cobb was an arm puncher.zojo, wrote:I was reading an interview of Tommy Morrison and in it he stated that Ross was the strongest opponent he ever faced. Emmanuel Agustus. Carlos Baldomir even though he was a unified champion, he was a real spoiler for Judah.

He was IBF and WBO champ, as well as a title challenger for other belts. Not sure that classifies him as a journeymen?alexpaterson wrote:Greg Haugen was a bit of a journeymen as in he fought anyone and everyone and was a very good, strong boxer

But Baldomir was also a world champion I realise that Haugen wasnt a "journeyman" but he did fight every fighter around and was often brought in to as the opponantControversial wrote:He was IBF and WBO champ, as well as a title challenger for other belts. Marcos Geraldo was pretty damn solid despite being destroyed by the HitMan. He gave Leonard & hagler tough distance fights.
