George :Tawpy: Thompson (Newport) was Welsh A.B.A.Bantamweight Chamption in 1923, He turned professional in 1925 and won
the Sporting Life Gold Belt Competition in 1928, HE had a total of 29 bouts before going on tour in 1933 to Australia where he had
6 contests and returned home in 1934, he had one further contest in Newport before retiring.
Like His Fellow Newportonian Jerry Shea He was a first class rugby player mostly with Cross Keys R.F.C. HE had an accident while
working at Newport Docks and a benefit match was staged for him in 1950. He died on Christmas Day 1959.
