Manchester bill 27th September

Post by Kilburn »

Are we actually going to get a competitive fight next saturday night or what? It seems the only hope left is that Witter will end up facing this Brazilian fellow Kelson Pinto 18-0 (16) in a WBO eliminator. But how likely is that to take place now? Last I heard it was still being "discussed".

What a load of shyte. Neil Sinclair has that all important WBU title shot coming up so he won't be in anything too risky. Then there's Farnell.. well forget about that.

I can't believe so many people would flock to this "event". Compare it to next month - Brodie v Chi / Moore v Logan - now THIS is what you want to see for your money.

OHHH but hang on I forgot - Rios is a decent opponent for Hatton because he lasted the distance with Stevie Johnston who is apparently #4 at light-welter on somebody's list....

It's not even funny.

We're fukced when 10,000 Man City fans rush the box office for tickets to see Rick bounce Rios a few times off the canvas.

Warren will be rubbing his hands and looking for a Christmas turkey for the next serving. Probably be another world rated.....lightweight.

There is no way Pinto will agree to a fight in Machester at one weeks notice, lets be honest. He is a prospect in his own right and will want adequate time to prepare for an opponent as slippery and tricky as 'Hitter' Witter.

I have enjoyed all the Hatton bills I have been to but will give this one a wide birth - having decried the main event since its confirmation Rios will probably cut up and stop Hatton just to prove me wrong!!

Yipee.

From the sportsnetwork site:

Junior Witter will defend his Commonwealth light-welterweight title against Fred Kinuthia at the MEN Arena on Saturday night.

The Australian-based Kenyan has an 8-2 record, with his only two defeats coming by way of close points- losses, one of which was to former IBF king Phillip Holiday.

Kinuthia, who stayed in Australia after boxing for Kenya in the 2000 Olympics, is hoping to set up a shot against domestic rival Lovemore Ndou with victory.

And the 34-year-old’s trainer Terry Fox reckons he can achieve it.

"Witter bobs and moves around like Prince Nassem does so Fred has to stay alert and keep moving," Fox told the Adelaide Review.

"This is a big fight for him. It's the next best thing to a world title and Fred's going to give it all he's got."

Anthony Farnell will take on Andy Halder as he returns to the ring following a WBU middleweight title defeat six months ago.

Farnell will take on Halder, who has an 8-2 record, over eight rounds, as he goes in search of a rematch with Wayne Elcock.

It was Elcock who beat Farnell at the MEN Arena in April over 12 rounds.

Meanwhile Michael Jennings (19-0) defends his WBU International welterweight title against Sammy Smith (10-5) over 12.

Smith recently pushed Brett James close over 10 for the Southern Area welterweight title.

Thomas McDonagh (20-0-2) also challenges for a WBU International title, in his case the light-middleweight crown.

He fights Portugal’s Eugenio Montiro, who has fought in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Belgium and the UK in compiling a 10-5 record.

In his last fight he defeated Danny Moir over six at a dinner show in Sunderland.

Matthew Hatton (16-2), fresh off a first round KO, takes on undefeated Taz Jones, who has a 2-0-2 record, while Andy Morris (3-0) fights Buster Dennis (1-3).

Amazing. How long have they had to get Witter in with someone half decent and we get this? They knew about this Sept 27th date for at least 2 months, if not more.

This card is particularly bad, because in the past at least when the main event had Hatton beating up a little bloke they would have a fight that could be deemed competative or interesting on the undercard such as the Farnell-Elcock/Groenwald fights but this is just rubbish.

The fact that Andy Morris v Buster Dennis will probably be fight of the night tells you all you need to know about this card.

The funny thing is that with the opposition Witter and Farnell are taking on it almost makes Hatton's fight look interesting

I would not be surprised if this really happened.
But not to worry, Frank would make sure Rios is disqualified for a “mysterious” head but.
