Exclusive - Lawton handed shock European title chance

What an opportunity for Scott Lawton. Couldn't come to a nicer bloke. Can he do it?

And I'm dissapointed with the EBU for accepting Audley as a voluntary!!!!

How has Lawton got this chance, for the vacant title.

Best of luck to him, and its not a mission impossible - Leva is pushing on and blows hot and cold.

I assume it is because he beat Derry Mathews.

Other fighters like Gulyakevich probably turned a shot at the title down. I don't think there are many better fighters than Lawton at Super Featherweight in Europe, so I don't think it is a bad decision from the EBU.

i wasnt at the lawton fight but a few mates where they said derry was out boxing lawton and it was his punch resistance that let him down, derry peaked against foster an probably should of gone up in weight after the marsh fight

This is how boxing works, you sign for a promoter with a bit of clout and he can deliver winnable title fights, FW has been doing it for years.
It's only Hennessy fighters who wait about untill they force themselves into mandatory positions

i agree with the second bit, i wasnt there but i watched the fight. it can be difgferent perspective live. i had lawton losing badly to gethin live but people who watched on TV had lawton winning easy

I personally don't like seeing fighters ranked at a weight they haven't fought at - and the Matthews fight was at Lightweight (even though it looks like Lawton can make Super Feather without much problem). I remember Murray being ranked as a Super Feather, despite never fighting at the weight - and it caused the BBBoC a bit of a headache when he finally declared he couldn't make the weight.

I wonder if Nicky Cook was offered it first.

i felt lawton looked very weak at the lower weight, much slower than his normal self, v matthews. a good result but it wasn't a great showing. i can't see him winning a european title, but it's a nice opportunity for him, i suppose.

Matthews was winning but his punch resistance let him down, badly.

Good opportunity for the kid, really hope he wins, but i don't think he's good enough.

exavtly. he isn't good enough to win the british title, and this is why he moved down. ok he beat matthews and now has a european title shot. i can see murray winning his euro title shot, but just cannot imagine lawton winning his. how weird that they get their shot around the same time.

In fairness to Lawton, he is ranked as the NO.4 Super Featherweight by the EBU behind Gulyakevich, Burns and Cook. The only one that is really losing out is the other mandatory challenger Fegatelli.

I am hoping that Ireland's Eddie Hyland will get a chance to fight for the EBU this year so if Lawton pulls through this it might pave the way for Lawton-Hyland. Eddie probably needs one more win against a decent ranked European fighter to be considered.

Best of luck to Scott Lawton.
