It was Marciano's penny-pinching that led to his death in a plane crash in 1969. Rocky hired a single-engined Cessna for a flight to Iowa. It was piloted by Glenn Belz, who had only 231 hours flying time behind him - and only 35 of those at night. A weather briefing warned of stormy skies over Iowa, with a low cloud ceiling. And it was night.
Furthermore, Belz had not been cleared to navigate by instruments.

I remember hearing a few years ago that Manuel Madina turned pro at 13!! If this is true then the Mexican hard man is worthy of a mention in this list.

I heard he was 17 Terrible but i am not sure, never realised Maricano was a skin flint. I have read a quarter of his autobiography and it does not as yet mention any of this...however he is still only in his early twenties in the section i am in at present

There's quite a good TV movie called Marciano (its been shown a few times on Hallmark), this gives an image of a guy with a paranoia for money.
