Curry vs Tito and Oscar are great 50/50 fights IMO. I'll edge him vs both on his best night.

He beats Chavez and Floyd at 147

THe jury is still out on Pacquao at 147 so I'm gonna refrain on that one for now.

Loses to all the rest.

Peak for peak match ups (naturally)

Vs Oscar De La Hoya Curry, better fundamentally and just as big

Vs Felix Trinidad Curry does a Winky on him, wins this easy IMO titot could never beat what he couoldn't hit cleanly and consistently

Vs Roberto Duran
the one who beat SRL beats Curry, anything less loses IMO

Vs Wilfred Benitez great technical fight. i love benitez but i *think* Curry just takes this, as he can switch his game from counterpunching to aggression more effectively

Vs Ray Leonard Curry basically poor man's Ray, his solid fundamentals make it vaguely competitive but Ray wins all the big rallies and rounds

Vs Thomas Hearns Hearns points, too long-limbed and skilled for Curry IMO, but he better watch he doesn't catch a left uppercut like the one SRL ruined him with and Curry iced McCrory with

Vs Shane Mosley Curry points, better defensively IMO and whilst less explosive, was probably bigger and stronger than Shane. shane would have some big rallies though before losing a 116-112 type deal

Vs Manny Pacquiao. hmmm. pac wins on southpaw advantage and in an out movement.

Vs Floyd Mayweather jr. oooh. chess type match. PBF quicker, Curry bigger, both great defensively. hmm. i think Curry's extra versatility- he CAN come forward onto PBF whereas i doubt PBF would even if he could- in a tightish fight that just makes the difference. Curry points, 115-113 type deal IMO

Vs Julio Cesar Chavez Curry annihilates him too big too fast
nice thread fella interested to hear G,I's response on this one :TU:

I did love to watch Curry - was it decided that he wasn't at his peak when Honyegun beat him then?

it seems to be the general consensus. he had to boil himself down for weeks to make welter at that point IE weeks in sweatsuits and only sipping water etc etc

Vs Oscar De La Hoya

55-45 to DLH...I imagine Oscar could win this one by just being a bit busier... Oscar Pts

Vs Felix Trinidad

50-50 I can imagine either man winning this at any time.

Vs Roberto Duran

Duran wins by stoppage.

Vs Wilfred Benitez

Curry did well against boxers. I think he sneaks the decision

Vs Ray Leonard

Ray KO's him. Curry didn't have the footwork...

Vs Thomas Hearns

Tommy would outbox him and then KO him

Vs Shane Mosley

50-50... Curry wouldn't like Shane's flurries but he can counter Moseley with hard shots

Vs Manny Pacquiao

Pac by late KO

Vs Floyd Mayweather jr.

Curry on Pts... again I think Curry can solve defensive fighters

Vs Julio Cesar Chavez

Chavez has the style and traits to beat Curry BUT by the time he got to 147 he was too old and too small

not for me... I'm a Honey fan so there's my bias but the fact that Curry was boiling down tells you that he was going in there with an advantage and when/if the pendulum swung the other way he was then at a disadvantage... You can't have it both ways.

haha, i know what you mean, the 'draining' excuse works both ways I agree. and it could well be that Honeygan always at his best had the style to beat Curry. I tend to agree, though, with the Curry-apologists, that he didn't look nearly as sharp at the end of his reign.

Vs Oscar De La Hoya I think Curry would pull out a close UD vs. De La Hoya

Vs Felix Trinidad I see Trinidad being outboxed pretty badly

Vs Roberto Duran I agree that if it's the Duran that beat Leonard he will win if not Curry wins

Vs Wilfred Benitez To me Curry was a version of Benitez with more power and I think Curry takes the decision.

Vs Ray Leonard I just gotta go with Leonard here

Vs Thomas Hearns I don't think Curry had the ruggedness/toughness to beat Hearns

Vs Shane Mosley I could see him outboxing Mosley. Mosley would have plenty of trouble against a tall guy with great defense and counterpunching.

Vs Manny Pacquiao I kind of see Pacquiao walking into one of those long lanky right hands Curry by KO

Vs Floyd Mayweather jr. Not sure on this one. I think whoever wins it would be extremely close and what casual fight fans call "boring".

Vs Julio Cesar Chavez I just think Chavez is Taylor made for Curry. Curry by tko.

Did you think he looked as sharp at 154?

Frank W a r r e n said that when Colin Jones fought Curry they had heard about Curry boiling down. They believed the rugged Jones could get him into the championship rounds and get to him. Curry went all out early to get Jones (maybe he didn't trust his stamina either). It was the cut that got got Colin though.

Only time I can remember a fight being stopped because of a cut on the nose.

I actually think Curry could eat up boxers but he didn't like aggressive swarmers who brought a good defence and plenty of punches...

briefly, yes. he looked pretty sharp till McCallum caught up with him anyway  not sure when Curry's alleged cocaine problems were occurring but i would guess it was around this time. from memory, McCallum wasn't 'supposed' to beat Curry and they were trying to set Curry up with a belt via McCallum to set up big fights down the line, like maybe a comebacking Leonard or something along those lines.

Peak for peak match ups (naturally)

Vs Oscar De La Hoya
[/quote]
i think curry decisions him , maybe even stops him
Grimm wrote: Vs Felix Trinidad
trinidad was a cheater like margaritto by the same method btw.
with richardson or someone like this in his team , the answer is like my answer with oscar.
Grimm wrote: Vs Roberto Duran
curry wins , DeJesus floored him at 135 , what would curry do at 147 ?
same as before.
Grimm wrote: Vs Wilfred Benitez
same
Grimm wrote: Vs Ray Leonard
a close tough fight which can go either way.

Grimm wrote: Vs Thomas Hearns
same as with leonard.
hearns is P4P below leonard but has his size on his side , and is almost the same as a H2H danger.
Grimm wrote: Vs Shane Mosley
like with leonard , a tiny bit more chance for curry here than the case with leonard.
Grimm wrote: Vs Manny Pacquiao
manny's full'o'surprises , who knows ? i don't.
at this time i'd consider manny a slight favorite.
Grimm wrote: Vs Floyd Mayweather jr.
i think curry can win a close decision here. don't forget floyd came from 130 to 154 and back to 147
curry came from 147 to 154 and then to 160 , never being able to make 147 again , that was what hurt him against honeyghan (well , this and lloyd's head , of course) , so , curry bigger than floyd about as fast , stronger , and had the bigger talent of the two , he simply had a much much tougher opposition
Grimm wrote: Vs Julio Cesar Chavez
like with floyd , but Chavez was never even a 147 until he aged and his fat percentage rose ,
chavez is even smaller than floyd , so unlike with floyd , curry would have stopped chavez.
it is more probable that curry stops him inside 12 than chavez losing a medicore/large sized decision inside12. curry's power even hurt McCallum in their fight , and this was a post prime curry.
imagine what it could have done to chavez , more so in curry's prime .
