Sprott looking poor in the gym
Sprott looking poor in the gym
Good sources have informed me that Michael Sprott has been struggling for sharpness in the gym leading up to the Williams showdown. His camp are talking a good fight, but they're really worried at how his training has gone.
I hope those sources are wrong.

I never know what to make of gym talk. I've heard that Williams has been looking absolutely sensational in the gym, and that's coming from a journo who's a pal of Sprott's! He thinks Williams will win convincingly.
In reality though this is Danny Williams. I expect him to disappoint me again but still think he can stop Sprott in the middle rounds after turning the fight around.
All this is speculation. Not long to go now chaps before we get our answers.

I think he was significantly lighter last time but felt like shit because of it. Against Sam I believe he was about 18st 10 and looked pretty good - until he got whacked.
It's extraordinary really though. I mean put Williams in there with "little" Holyfield and watch the old man bully him around all night. To me Danny has always appeared about 3st lighter than he actually is.

This is where Danny has trouble. He's very bottom heavy. Although broad-shouldered, IMO his upperbody strength is not particularly great. If it was, why was the smaller Sam and Keith Long able to bully him about up close?
He didn't have the strength to push the lighter and shorter Long (no pun intended) back and got embroiled in an up-close-and-personal wrestling match. He couldn't even nudge Long onto the back foot to make room for him to throw the right uppercut.
Maybe working with Adam Booth will improve Danny's upper body strength.
I've always stuck up for Danny based on what I've seen when he's in the gym and generally liking his style WHEN he puts his shots together and just lets his hands goinstead of thinking too much.
However, he's 30 now and can't make anymore excuses. It's time to prove to himself as much as anyone else, whether he really wants it.

I know what you meant and I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think people want Danny to be a success more than believe he will be, at world level anyway. I've met him too and he's a really nice fella, I would love him to do the business but am 101% certain he will spend the next few years flitting between domestic scraps and another possible European shot, nothing more.DIRT SUGAR wrote:Goz, I'm 31 mate and I realised I didn't have the ability to be anymore than a club boxer at the age of 18 so I got out while the going's good.
What I meant is that we've been waiting for 'the real' Danny Williams to stand up for so long now that I'm wondering if he already has
I realised boxing wasn't for me around the same age although I did think I had the sporting ability, just not the heart for a proper tear-up
