Why is the super 6 not getting much coverage in the uk?
I don't get it, it seems if your name is not David Haye or Amir Kahn your name don't get anywhere near the newspapers. Britain has a world champion boxer (Carl Froch) competing in an elite tournament which is the first of its kind yet most people in Britain don't know its happening. Most of my friends are very casual boxing fans who only watch the big fights but when i talk about the super six they don't have a clue what im talking about. And why is it being shown on a channel like Primetime (why not sky sports or espn) I think alot of people are sleeping on both Carl Froch and the super six!
Re: Why is the super 6 not getting much coverage in the uk?
I am hoping Froch gets on a bigger channel than prime time.

him & his Promoter are obviously to blame
Haye plugged the shit out of his fight with valuev....surely Froch could do the same

No doubt mh has done a good job with Froch but I often wonder what allegedly could have done with him.
A fw fighter in the super six would be all over the media.

Re: Why is the super 6 not getting much coverage in the uk?
You have to blame Hennesey I'm afraid.
That said, if you're not with Sky it is almost impossible to build a really huge event, what with all the cross promotion on their 'news' channels and their huge marketing budget.

Agreed FW has always made his fighters big names, and Haye is a brilliant self publicist.sweetscience wrote:him & his Promoter are obviously to blame

This is an area Hennessy really struggles in, Froch is involved in this huge tournament, and it don't even get on the telly here

A fw fighter would have never been entered into the Super Six - warren would have to give up too much control/compromise too much in order to make the concept work imo.The quiet man 2004 wrote: A fw fighter in the super six would be all over the media.

Re: Why is the super 6 not getting much coverage in the uk?
That said, fw WOULD have done a better job of publicising/selling the Super Six than mh has done thus far. The fact that the tournament hasnt got a tv deal with a major channel is just shocking.
Re: Why is the super 6 not getting much coverage in the uk?
I think the tournament was well publicised in the run up to the first round of bouts, and i think it will start to gain a lot more coverage once we get closer to the second round of bouts. Even if Abraham/Dirrell does not steal many headlines in the UK, by early April i expect to see a lot of media coverage in the run up to Froch/Kessler & Ward/Green.
I agree that Warren would do a better job publicising the event if one of his fighters was involved, but i also agree that it would be a very unlikely move from Warren to enter one of his elite fighters into such a tournament.

Re: Why is the super 6 not getting much coverage in the uk?
The problem is that only Sky are interested in showing boxing and they're full to the rafters with Maloney, Warren, Hearn, Haye...
Also the next Super 6 fight isn't until April, so there's unlikely to be much publicity in early Feb, I'm sure there'll be plenty in the press about nearer the time

Froch needs to get himself on Soccer AM, GMTV, Something For The Weekend, Question Of Sport and a cameo in Corrie wearing a t-shirt advertising his upcoming fight with Kessler.
Sorted.

But he still should be shown on sky. I hoping that it can get sorted by then.Chambers2 wrote:The problem is that only Sky are interested in showing boxing and they're full to the rafters with Maloney, Warren, Hearn, Haye...

Why 'should' he be shown on sky, if Sky are already overflowing with promoters?leforge wrote:But he still should be shown on sky. Its upto Hennessy to sell this to sky.

It shouldn't be about promoters, Sky should have some quality control. Otherwise their viewers get stuck with rubbish like last Friday. If Froch is not on TV it is an outrage and it shows up Sky and the rest for a bunch of frauds.

WBU/WBO belts - he would make him the laughing stock JC was for years, imo.The quiet man 2004 wrote:No doubt mh has done a good job with Froch but I often wonder what allegedly could have done with him.

Froch has already passed JC in the eyes of us who follow the sport.
Would he have beat JC? We will never know. But he has acheived as much and more in a
shorter space of time.

I reckon he's tried, but sky aren't biting.leforge wrote:Its upto Hennessy to sell this to sky.
I agree with what Gobbles said, it's down to Sky to show some quality control

"Us who follow the sport". How grandiose.
90% of us who follow the sport disagree

Re: Why is the super 6 not getting much coverage in the uk?
Sky have a monopoly on UK boxing at the moment.
They haven't created it - the others backing out have created it.
All of their dates for this season were allocated ages ago.
At that time, Hennessey had his deal with ITV.
Sadly they have dropped him and it seems never to turn back.
Stop blaming Sky for this.
It's not their fault that Hennessey didn't secure TV rights for the Super Six.
I'm sure that if Sky had approached Hennessey or visa versa whilst he was in contract with ITV they'd have been delighted
That's what a Promotor is paid to do.
Sadly on this occasion the Promotor has failed.
I really feel for Hennessey - but if the boot was on the other foot do you think Mick would give a toss about another Promotor ? No.
Carl can be on Sky at the drop of a hat.
It just means he has to jump ship.
That won't happen he's a loyal lad - so sorry guys we all have to live with it.
Poxy Primetime or what ever.
