Great link about Froch's reluctance to travel at bottom of that page

Basically they are just getting Groves' name out there with the much higher profile Degale, everybody knows there is zero chance of it happening
Re: Groves offers 50k to fight Degale according to reports
they need to wait i think to get both fighters profiles higher.... DeGale is higher profile, while Groves is respected by the closer followers such as us lot on the forums, but they need to get a bit more interest going.

Its getting a fair bit of coverage which is what Groves wanted and it will make DeGale look bad to some sports fans when he likely turns it down, as they will see it as bottling it.
I don't see why it shouldn't happen, why have we come to expect boxers who were the best in the world at amateur facing nobody who can fight back for the first two years of their careers? Why shouldn't they go in with tough evenly matched competition? Forgetting promoters using them as cash cows, as a sportsman, you would think they would want to go in to tough evenly matched fights more than they would beat up on an overmatched unknown?
They can fight now, both go on and have successful careers and then have a grudge rematch in the future for more money.

Re: Groves offers 50k to fight Degale according to reports
Lets see if its a bluff Degale accept the fight 50k not bad for your 7th fight, And lets see if Groves and haymaker back it up. Why wait and build the fight up, i would pay to c this fight rather them knock foreign imports out. The loser could always come back but the paying public will know who the real deal is.
Re: Groves offers 50k to fight Degale according to reports
I agree. Make the fight now, as a British title eliminator and they can move onto proper fights. They're both talented so a loss would not stop either from going on to be successful and they could always still do it again further down the line because the rivalry is such that it will keep going.doctorboxing wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/8495500.stm

Here as well. I wonder if Degale/Warren will come back with anything now that it's public knowledge.

Re: Groves offers 50k to fight Degale according to reports
It'll never happen, but I'd like to see it...
I don't subscribe to this...let's wait and build the fight up theory, it's an even match up right now and way more interesting than any other fight they'll be involved with at this stage. Junior Witter waited an age for a fight to be built up with Hatton, it never happened...Barker-Macklin would be a great match up right now but that's another 'build it up' prospect, who knows if that will ever happen.
Like other posters have said, if the fight happens right now, they can always build up a re-match in a few years time when they both should be at championship level.

I agree entirely - fighters/ promoters wrap their charges up in cotton wool whilst they build their 'brand' and records for at least 2 - 3 yrs.doctorboxing wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/8495500.stm

Cross roads fights like this at an early point in their careers would do them the world of good and would give the paying public what they want - evenly matched, intruiging fights.
They could always rematch later down the lne but mke the fight now - I am too cynical to ever think it will take place right now but it would give the sport a great shot in the arm if it did.

This is why MMA is becoming bigger as well. Fights people want to see all the time no one ducks any1 and it doesnt matter if u lose, because you get another go at a later date when you have improved.

Bang on the money
Boxing is it's own worst enemy and promoters are slowly squeezig the life out of the sport with their own self interest and attempts to build and retain their own empires.
Professional boxing has to rank amongst the most consistently frustrating sports to follow.
Re: Groves offers 50k to fight Degale according to reports
DeGale is probably getting more than £50,000 to fight Matthew Barr or whoever next week.

I wonder how many tickets sold for the Wembley bill are for people just to support Degale.gobbles wrote:DeGale is probably getting more than £50,000 to fight Matthew Barr or whoever next week.

how is it bluff? i can guarantee that groves and booth would take the fight in a heartbeat. booth says he will manage grove's career just like haye's. that means taking meaningful fights whenever possible. come on wazza..take a risk..and groves profile doesn't really need raising that much..he is fighting on big undercards and sky are building him up as one of the best prospects. who do you think will win if they met now?? id tip groves but degale looks good also so farTerribleTerry wrote:Exactly.Lenny wrote: Jeff Powell is a pudendum
