If Paul Smith and James De Gale fought next?
Who would win if Warren put DeGold in for a British title shot against Liverpool's answer to Peter Andre (Tony Dodson's words not mine), Paul Smith.
:)

degale aint gonna get a shot in his next two fight's :!: & in smiths next 2 fights you'll see maybe getting to own the british in fights against fighters like dilks, another echo derby makes good buisness sense or kenny anderson or david.Nel wrote:Who would win if Warren put DeGold in for a British title shot against Liverpool's answer to Peter Andre (Tony Dodson's words not mine), Paul Smith.

these 3 names are are good profitable fights for wazza as he can make them all on his terms without rival promoters gunning for purse bids etc. groves if he's victorious will be banging on the door, but it wont be getting answerd as smiths team will be looking onwards as warren has great ties in the wbo with smith not needing magee's scalp.
but nothing is never set in stone & you cant plan in this buisness, but common sense tell's you this aint on the cards.
id be intrested to see if smith is succesfull & vacated groves would deffo be in line & would degale be steered the intercontinental route?? that's the question.
Re: If Paul Smith and James De Gale fought next?
If in theory this happened, degale would first of all be in a fight where someone can take what he gives, and throws back harder than what he throws. He doesn't have the ring savvy or skill right now to beat smith.
But i agree with bomber, i don't see this happeneing for a long time, if at all

Re: If Paul Smith and James De Gale fought next?
Never going to happen, it's pointless living the fantasy that bouts like this might happen.
Re: If Paul Smith and James De Gale fought next?
Chunky Vs Groves is more likely to happen, I think that the Dodson V Smith outcome will play a factor in it all though
Re: If Paul Smith and James De Gale fought next?
chunky groves. good fight, and a loss for either of them right now wouldn't do any harm, if anything would set up an interesting re-match somewhere down the line.
As regard Smigga v dodson, i get the feeling that if smigga beats dodson, dodson would be a potential opponent for degale, in what would be seen as a massive step up in class, whereas if smith did lose, he would be more than likely looking to get back in the title mix very quickly rather than take what would be a percieved step back in fighting degale.
anyway, frank will keep them apart anyway IMO.
bring on the 12th, and still.....

I disagree, unfortuatly the "0" defeats seems to be a treasured thing by boxers and promoters.avidlemon wrote:chunky groves. good fight, and a loss for either of them right now wouldn't do any harm.
As such, these bouts just are not happening at the moment.
Re: If Paul Smith and James De Gale fought next?
I just think that because they are at similar stages of their respective careers, a loss against each other does much less harm that a slip up against a journeyman fighter.
It would be the toughest fight either would have had in the pro's to be fair, and it would build a bit of interest in terms of a re-match.
It could be a lot more helpful than devastating. I mean ok i know boxers would much rather preserve a "0", but this is the kind of fight, and the type of matchmaking boxing in the uk is crying out for.
I mean look at top class boxers now with a loss on their record. Pac-man had no real harm done to him losing early in his career. Cotto although a couple of losses would still be able to fight marquee names.
I know chunky and groves are not at that level by any stretch of the imagination, but a loss wouldn't ruin or devastate either of their careers now

It doesnt damage their careers, unless of course one hands the other an allmighty beat down liek Lacy Calzaghe. But it does damage their marketability, and at the end of the day thats what the promoters want.
Huge gamble for both promoters in question should they face off at such an early stage.
