Re: any hint on next prizefighter
I wouldn't mind seeing one of the lower weights like Featherweight or Super Bantamweight. I think Lightweight is the lowest that has been done.

Re: any hint on next prizefighter
Am I the only one a little bored by prizefighter and think it has run its course? Whilst it can be entertaining, in terms of serious professional boxing it is rather meaningless.
Re: any hint on next prizefighter
I fully agree. No doubt entertaining, but as you say, it has run its course and is far too frequent. I have never liked the three round format, either. Four, I would be happy with, but I still feel when I watch Prizefighter, that although fun, it somewhat relegates the sport to a sort of Toughman competition to appeal to the UFC/MMA masses.reggaereggae wrote:Am I the only one a little bored by prizefighter and think it has run its course? Re: any hint on next prizefighter
It's good in small doses, maybe 1 or 2 a year but if they milk it, it will eventually lose it's appeal. I think a Contender style series featuring British and Irish boxers would be good.reggaereggae wrote:Am I the only one a little bored by prizefighter and think it has run its course? Its time to stop and concentrate on good quality domestic/european fights...reggaereggae wrote:Am I the only one a little bored by prizefighter and think it has run its course? Whilst it can be entertaining, in terms of serious professional boxing it is rather meaningless.

I think prizefighter has been milked til the udders are sore already, they need to give it a break for a year then come back with something interesting.Deno1986 wrote:It's good in small doses, maybe 1 or 2 a year but if they milk it, it will eventually lose it's appeal. I still enjoy prizefighter good entertainment. I think they should add some international competition into it now.

Couldn't agree less. Too frequent maybe but we've got what we waited years for, the best taking on the best. No more standard points wins over journeymen. How many shows do you go to where the winners come from the same corner 90% of the time? I'm guessing lots. We've finally got a format where all boxers want to win.AlexY2K4 wrote:I fully agree. I'm with you. I can understand the format might not appeal to all, but what's not to like when you have seven contents (regardless of scheduled length) in which EVERY boxer is coming to win, and are almost always good matches on paper? And, unlike a standard contest in which a boxer is paid x-amount regardless of the outcome, only the winner gets the big prize, so there will be nobody coming to survive or to find a soft spot on the canvas.housesecond wrote:Couldn't agree less. Furthermore, look at what a boost it's given the careers of Rogan, Sexton, Harrison, and what a heart-warming story for Ovill McKenzie, and a payday and good exposure for Rees and Oakey when they weren't getting any better offers.
Re: any hint on next prizefighter
Isn't that something they always do in this country which annoys me (re Prizefighter being overdone a little).
Tv reality show went well? Brilliant you can have 25 a week on every fornicating channel.
Singing/Dancing 'talent' contest popular? Superb have 5 of them running back to back all year until everyone else is sick to the back teeth of the drivel.
Live football popular on a Sunday? Excellent, back to back matches all day with hardly any left at 3pm on a Saturday and we'll totally oversell them all with our fantastically original 'Super Sunday' strapline.

Yeah, fair point. Big Brother was genuinely interesting the first time round. Prizefighter COULD reach saturation point, but I'm still intrigued by as it is now. But yes, given the limited number of eligible boxers, it could be a matter of time before it gets repetitive.Goz wrote:Isn't that something they always do in this country which annoys me (re Prizefighter being overdone a little).

Re: any hint on next prizefighter
International fighters in it the next idea. A heavyweight with some European and US fighter would be good.
Re: any hint on next prizefighter
Its not exactly the best taking on the best though. The best one so far (in terms of opposition) has been the Light Welterweight one - and the highest ranked Light Welter in that tournament was 5th according to Boxrec.housesecond wrote:Couldn't agree less. The only guys above at light welter (Hatton, Khan, McCloskey, Witter) are at a higher level than British title level.stujones wrote:Its not exactly the best taking on the best though. I still like it and must go to one before it gets locked
Dont think it is going anywhere to be honest. I saw an interviuew with Hearn and he was talking about jazzing up snooker the way he jazzed up darts. What I found most interesting is that he said he didnt care what the traditionalists thouht, because its all about the younger crowd. Words to that effect anyways
Prizefighter is probably here to stay. Make it international in the form of England v another country. Add an inappropiate and potentially jingoistic title and run with it

Was speaking to Barry Hearn during a fag break at the most recent light-middle one. He mentioned that he's looking to take the format and test it overseas - prizefighter could be the new pop idol/ X factor!

Well, yes it's good that the fights are well-matched, and the fighters want to win...but you see this at most amateur shows. In terms of Pro boxing (in which no title is less than 10 rounds) it doesn't mean that much.housesecond wrote:Couldn't agree less. I mean the amount of space Boxingnews give it is way over the top - it's fun but deserves no more than one page either way.
To your point about tha format where all the boxers want to win and is well-matched....surely the answer is to get pro boxing in general to pull its socks up and make the good matches, not some halfway house between pro boxing / amteur boxing / toughman competitio?

Re: any hint on next prizefighter
ur very wrong
Prizefighter is a great concept...the lower weights dont work....but lt heavy, cruiser and heavyweight provide a full night of entertainment...no padding just a tear up
the scope and potential is huge
im a big fan and have been from the start

Re: any hint on next prizefighter
What about if the rounds went up, i.e. a six-rounder instead, although you might have to lessen the number of those taking part. But at least that way you might have a serious contest on instead.

Nothing in the format will change as its been a huge success in both live gate and viewing figures. It really could not have gone any better for all involvedBoxingmad wrote:What about if the rounds went up, i.e. a six-rounder instead, although you might have to lessen the number of those taking part.
