Krence spared jail sentence

Post by bennie »

Heavyweight prospect Mark Krence has been handed a "last chance" to stay out of prison following an ugly street attack on his ex-partner.
Krence, the Chesterfield-based Midlands area heavyweight champ, lifted Lisa Jenkins off the ground by her throat and threw her on to a car bonnet in front of their two-year-old son Bailey.
Chesterfield magistrates ordered him to undergo domestic violence counselling and pay compensation to Ms Jenkins.
"We can't stress enough that this is your last chance. If you step out of line again you are inside. You have only just missed going into custody today," presiding magistrate Keith Broadhead warned Krence, aged 27.
Karen Barnett, prosecuting, said Ms Jenkins had a four-year relationship with Krence that was "marked with occasions of violence".
She left him in March and allowed him full access to Bailey - but the arrangement didn't work out as she had hoped. On August 29, she told him that contact should be arranged through solicitors and he agreed.
The court heard how Ms Jenkins was walking with Bailey towards her car on September 2 when Krence pulled up outside her home in a van and demanded to see the youngster. She put Bailey in the car and told Krence to see a solicitor.
"She pushed forward to go between his vehicle and her car and he grabbed her throat and drew back his right fist. He said: 'I could******* kill you, you bitch'. He picked her up by her throat and threw her on to the car bonnet," said Mrs Barnett.
"A neighbour came out and told him he couldn't do that and he replied with abuse. He said to Ms Jenkins: 'I'll be back at 1pm and if I don't see him, I'll smash all the windows'. He then kicked out at her car again."
Mrs Barnett said the victim suffered reddening and pain around her neck and chest, adding: "She said she hadn't complained about assaults in the past because they were living together but he shouldn't do it now. She said she was frightened of him."
Krence, of Prospect Road, Old Whittington, admitted assault – his second conviction for this offence.
He was ordered to pay Ms Jenkins £150 compensation. He was also given a one-year community rehabilitation order and must do 100 hours community punishment, with £70 costs.
Jonathan Taaffe, defending, said: "He feels ashamed. He knows that, as a professional boxer, he should be able to control himself better.
"He hadn't seen his son for six weeks. His former partner had moved home without telling him."

You get the feeling that anyone normal who hasn't tasted a little bit of the limelight would be eating porridge and weeding the prison gardens right now

Maybe for assault, Steve, but when two of Scotland's best fighters of recent years appear in court on drugs charges (Paul Weir and Gary Jacobs), assuming they are found guilty, their fame will not save them.

Weir's up for supplying cannabis and Jacobs for ecstasy, I believe. How the f**k do some ex-boxers make such a f**k up of their post-ring lives? Drives me to despair, particularly as we've never had an abundance of top class fighters up here.

I also hear that Scott Harrison will most likely face charges for fracturing some guy's nose and jaw in a pub toilet in East Kilbride near Glasgow. By some accounts, the guy deserved it but this is all we need with him signing for a rematch with Medina in late November.

Wake me up I'm having a bad dream!!
