I did not expect this, I can tell you.

Good luck, Enzo. I think he's up against it here, mind. And good story, Ben. :TU:

I think it is too soon for Enzo after his recent setbacks, but good look to him.

If he loses this will he retire?

Well, odds are it doesn't happen for whatever reason.

Lets hope it does, and he wins! :TU:

Let's not forget that he was totally in control and dominant against Afolabi, until he went fucked, who didn't do badly himself in a world title shot.

Other than that cock job against Lebedev (who, let's be fair, is good) it isn't all bad news.

St. Petersburg seems a strange location for a EBU fight between a Ukranian born German and a Welshman! Last chance saloon for Enzo. Would have liked to see him with one or two more fights under his belt but I suppose it's hard to pass up an opportunity like this.

He might be Russian Ukranian- just as Enzo has Italian connections.

Maccarinelli is a former WBO champion, it is not really that surprising that he is getting a shot at the European title.

fair point.

I tipped Enzo to defeat Haye, was also present when Afolabi blitzed him. Think he's been the same way once or twice since. Shouldn't be surprised it's got to be worth a few bob, specially if he can pull it off.

Enzo Maccarinelli vs Denis Lebedev - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zgz67-fEl4U

I thought I would post a link to Enzo's last significant fight, as it was not shown in full on the last PPV.

Unless he fights considerably better than he did against Lebedev, then I think he will get stopped again.

Yet you don't think he should fight Tony Bellew at LH if he had the chance? Bit of a contradiction dont you think?

I said in an earlier post on this thread that I thought that this fight was coming too soon for Maccarinelli in his comeback.

Anyway, this fight is for the European title and a fight against Bellew would be for the Commonwealth title, that is a big difference. So, I have hardly contradicted myself.

What is all this talk of Macc fighting Bellew at LHW anyway?? Macc has NEVER in his whole career fought at less than cruiser, so why on earth would he drop to a division 25 pounds below what he's accustomed to??

Frenkel is nothing special. I have seen him fight a couple of times on German TV. Granted, he can bang a bit, but so can Enzo.

This will also be (in theory) a step up for Frenkel, he doesn`t have a quality record in my opinion and this will be his first championship distance fight.

I have many doubts about Enzo, more from the demolition job that Lebedev did on him than the Haye/Ofalabi fights, but if he gets in proper shape and can land early on the chin, he has every chance of blowing the guy away.

A great chance for Enzo.

I've met Enzo and he's a really nice guy,and i hope he can pull it off,to me the european title is worth more than the WBO title he held and perhaps if he'd gone down that route in the beginning he would have been matched a bit better than in some of those WBO defences.

Still a bit of an Enigma why its in Leningrad!

Maybe they are just big boxing fans there, and will happily turn out to watch a good bout regardless of who the fighters are?

Indeed.

And I think it's time too now refere to belt holders as "belt holders" and not "champions." :TU:

Guys,

The EBU have got it WRONG!

Enzo will face Alexander Kotlobay, NOT Alexander Frenkel on 27 April. The EBU made an error on their website – thanks to Dean Powell for clarifying.

The winner of Maccarinelli-Kotlobay must defend against Frenkel.

See above article link for clarification.
