Esham Pickering's opponent??

Post by stujones »

Check out secondsout preview of Esham Pickerings up coming defence of his Commonwealth Super Bantam weight title. The writer's name sounds familiar.

By the looks of things this Alfred Tetteh seems far to inexperienced to be sharing a ring with someone like Pickering, as he's only had nine fights (6-1-2). Again, it looks like another horrible night for the Commonwealth belt (much like Hobson's title victory - no disrespect to Tea, but that co-challenger was awful). How can this fight be sanctioned.

I thought the piece on the whole was an interesting insight into Pickering's future (although maybe the writer was a little kind on the current opponent!). I found it interesting that he seemed to label Michael Hunter above him, Wayne McCoullough yes, but I think at the moment Pickering should consider Hunter a step down. After all, who's the fighter with the meaningful belt.

Having said that, I am really looking forward to Hunter vs Pickering next year. It's a close fight to call, but I'd go for the all action scouser to win.

I guess he was a little kind Stu because it's difficult to slate a guy he hasn't seen. It does seem unlikely that Tetteh will be able to pose a serious threat to Esham Pickering, however.

Pickering is a great guy and he's had it really tough. He got robbed both in and out of the ring when he was out in the Grand Canaria (he was attacked whilst training for a fight over there). He was pretty much discarded after he got blown away by Martinez and his career looked in tatters.

I agree with you that a Pickering-Hunter dustup would make for an intriguing fight. I don't think Pickering views Hunter as being necessarily above him, but more his closest rival who he could earn a decent payday against.

Fair points, I just have this feeling fights like this will devalue the Belt Esham has worked so hard to get.

I remember when he got schooled by Jon Joe Irwin thinking,"Here's another Naz wannabe who aint got his natural skills". I'm glad he's refound his form and LEARNED from his in ring losses. He seems ready to step up to European class, that's why I don't particularly want him to really fight Hunter (appologies also for getting Michael's home town mixed up). Its kind of like Danny Williams calling out Audley Harrison.

Sorry to hear of Esham's misfortunes hope he continues on this upform. Always thought he had the talent, untill he faced Jon Joe Irwin, who was underated - but never a world beater. Good to see he's starting to live to his earlier promise. He must be starting to get on a bit now for a Super Bantam, that's why I'd like to see him forget Hunter and go for the European honours (and possibly greater things), why not on current form.
