Sons of Cuba

Post by ALI »

In Frank Warrens latest column, he recommends checking out a documentary titled Sons of Cuba. Does anyone know if this has aired yet, and if there is anywhere i can watch it online? You Tube has a couple of clips, but unfortunately, not the whole documentary.

Saw this the other night and really enjoyed it, although I did notice one error. One of the young boys is the son of Luis Felipe Martinez referred to as a former "Olympic and world champion" - which isn't true according to my research, he was a bronze /silver medalist medalist

Recommended though!

It's on at the Cornerhouse in Manchester starting in April. If you have any art-house type cinemas near you then drop then an email to see if they'll be showing it. That's what my mate did and it paid off. Seen a trailer for it and I can't wait!

Went to see this last Wednesday at the Cornerhouse cinema in Manchester. All I can say is WOW!

It's a documentary but the cinematography and the story play out as if it were fiction. It's also really moving, sometimes brutal but sometimes heartwarming look at the lives of these kids. If you like boxing, and like me love Cuba, you should try and see this. One of the kids Cristian Martinez is doing really well now and could be a possibility for the 2012 Olympics, his Dad was a pretty decent amateur too.

I went to watch this last wednesday with my uncle! He'd heard about it and from a friend down London and told me about it!
We saw it at the Corner House in Manchester, its all subtitles which i know some people will hate; but for any boxing fan or boxer its deffinatley worth a watch!

4.30am wake up....training at 5am!
Schooling through day training at teatime.....running in the pitch black of night on thier own if thier weight wasn't right!
Dieting and all the rest!

Considering i thought it was going to be about a group of young adults like our GB development squads, but it was an under 12s academy! Bit like bording school as they only see thier families at weekends, alot of dediacation for such young kids! But they have all become a big family and look after one another! It follows a certain few lads more so than the others!

Time to shut up before i tell the rest of the story lol

Deffinatley worth a watch! £7 each addmission at Manchester Corner House!
