If you're categorising individual punches, Joe Louis deserves at least a nomination in every area.gambler49 wrote:Who had the best str8 Right out of these guys?
Certainly so, if you're going to include a fighter like Klitschko.

I rate Louis the best all round puncher of all time.... I don't think he was best in any particular tho.Goodnight, Irene wrote:If you're categorising individual punches, Joe Louis deserves at least a nomination in every area.gambler49 wrote:Who had the best str8 Right out of these guys?

Though both Klitschkos are contenders for that mantle?
In all seriousness --- come on. There isn't a single punch either of them throw which ranks above Louis' arsenal. The best single shot from either brother is Wlad's jab --- & that, an inferior punch to the Louis counter-part.

I shall have to dig up the footage of Holmes sparring
an exhibition with Mercardo and Tillis which I think
was around 1989?

Re: Who had the best str8 Right?
Lewis hardly threw a classic straight right . . .he favored the overhand.
Holmes's was deadly fast but not enough power on the end.
Wlad's is fast and hard but I've seen him off-balance after throwing it too many times and he always uses it with the one-two . . no variation with it.
Vitali shouldn't even be included here.
I have to go with Schmeling here with best overall straight right hand punch in terms of speed, power and timing.
Johansson should be included in this poll as well.

Hhaa no idea why I posted it here. I was at work on the
phone to a customer. Just having one of those late day
mind lapses.
I think Johannson should be included also. As should Max
Baer.
Though Max often threw more an overhander of a right.

Re: Who had the best str8 Right?
I went with Max. The other men were bigger and more pwoerful but his right was a measured weapon. Very accurate and technically excellent. I'd have voted for Louis if he'd have been an option
