A more distinct possibility than I'd care to imagine. If I were managing Foreman for mythical match-ups, this is one fight I would consider too poor on the risk-reward ratio, because a lot of people will pick Foreman anyday of the week.

I like Foreman's chances, but it's a deceptively dangerous fight for him. I'll pick him, but he'd better bring his A-game.

Tunney in theory could use his tactical skills to overcome Foreman; however all George would have to is (first, not gas himself out) land a couple big shots and Tunney gets carried out on a stretcher.

Tunney would't stand and trade wiv George. And George is much slower on his feet then Dempsey. And even Dempsey couldn't keep Gene down (and it wernt his fault the ref counted slow). A prime Tunney was better then the 1974 Ali...

You're right, he would probably have to land a few, and I think that's where he would have come up short. Tunney was quicker than just about all of the world class 170 lb guys he beat, so I just have a hard time picturing George getting a few solid shots in on him. Certainly very possible, but I think a less likely outcome than Tunney frustrating him and bustiing him up.

Agreed!

All the savvy, ring generalship, smarts, pin-point counterpunching, etc, etc, looks and sounds all great but when you get clubbed upside the head by a monster like prime Foreman or get your liver pulled out by the likes of Smokin' Joe it tends to all go out the window.

If Tunney went against the likes of '73 Foreman, I believe it quite possible he gets overwhelmed.

Except Ali didn't outbox him as much as he outmuscled him and let him wear himself out by hitting away, mostly at his protected body.

It's an interesting fight for sure.
