Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
Really like this guy, despite looking like a scary mofo, he comes across as such a gentleman- he was really gratious in defeat tonight and has had a fabulous little career for himself.
Wins over Harrison (KO3), unbeaten Dettweiler (W12), Danny Williams (W12), Colin Kenna (KO1), Mark Potter (KO3), Mike Holdan (KO4), Pele Reid (KO7) and Timo Hoffman (W8). And all this from a man brutally exposed when 11-0 against a 4-4 Harry Senior... stopped with body shots in six.
Sprott well done.... what a great domestic fighter you've been. Hope he rebounds ok from the Harrison loss.

Showed good aggression and really wanted the Euro strap tonight. Shame the 1 punch in the last round had to end it.
Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
Sprott did well tonight. It's a sickener for him.
He boxed well, showed good combinations and determination. It will be even harder for him to take as I'm sure he would have wanted to win this one for his sister who recently died.

he is a lovely fella, is a furniture removals man in real life. interviewed him once after watching him train in the gym in jim evans garden !!
i am gutted for him, he deserves a belt and some good pay days, but i think he underlined his class tonight, i just cant understand why he stood there in the corner where it was dangerous for him, he should have got out of there, he was winning the last round too !!
audley is a merchant banker !!

I really feel for Sprott tonight - he was so very close to taking home the European which he deserved over the majority of the fight.
He took the defeat with grace and fair play to him.

He had an one armed shy 38 year old fighter with no jaw in front of him for 10 rds and still couldn't get him out of there to get an European belt.
Instead he decided to coast to the decision, and for good measure gave himself a bit of a rest along the ropes.
I've seen 1 minute street fights with more punches thrown than during these 11.5 rds.
A crushing defeat for a boxer who, when everything's said ,never took his business very seriously.

Sprott is a legend

Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
Sprott is an honest campaigner, who gave it a shot and had it all wrapped up in the bag but got tagged with a last gasp knockout out punch.crow wrote:rhino222 wrote: What ?

He certainly didn't stink the place out and talk about knocking out Haye and the Klitschko sisters, no, he just got his head down and went for it.
Despite the loss, he comes out of the fight with a better rep than Audley - and like Jeff say's, the guy is a credit.
Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
you are talking crap, its not sprotty who had been bragging that he was going to be world champion etc, he is a good honest campaigner who was certainly not coasting at any stage in the fight, sprotty wanted to end in style, he wanted to spark audley into retirement. dont know where you get your assumptions from, but the toilet springs to mind !!crow wrote:What ?rhino222 wrote:

Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
I felt sorry for Michael, he was winning the fight and just got caught by a left!!, but thats Boxing for you, you can never expect anything in this game, I think the atmosphere was very much against Audley, people Booing him, Wayne Alexander was with me watching the fight, we both agreed that Michael had the fight in the bag up to that final point, then, BANG, a floating shot finshes it!!
Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
How the hell was he coasting to get the decision!!!!crow wrote:What ?rhino222 wrote:

He was giving it to harrison in the last round when he should have been "Coasting" as you put it.
Thats why he got nailed.
Harrison is a lucky mofo
Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
A fight lasts 12 rounds so, does it matter if the KO came in the first 5 seconds of a fight or the last 5 seconds? Sprott should have stayed away and he would of won the fight, but the fact is that he went after Audley and got ko'd. All aprt of boxing and not luck.Spiker wrote:How the hell was he coasting to get the decision!!!!crow wrote:What ?rhino222 wrote:

Take away the ko and you have a 12 rds dreary win for Sprott against an chineless one armed foe he sparked cold a few years back.rhino222 wrote:crow wrote:rhino222 wrote: he is a good honest campaigner who was certainly not coasting at any stage in the fight, sprotty wanted to end in style,
Oh wait, i must be blind; it was an entertaining back and forth action with the audiance gripped to it's seats. Sprott gave a 110% effort but just couldn't resist the avalanche of punches coming at him rd after rd, and he bravely succombed at the end after having given his all.

Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
It takes two to tango and want to engage. Sprott was first to initiate nearly every exchange, he tried to make a fight of i. If he had of approached the fightin the same fashion as Audley you might have a point but he didn't, I actually thought he boxed really well and it was prob the best performance of his career up until tyhe finisher.crow wrote:Take away the ko and you have a 12 rds dreary win for Sprott against an chineless one armed foe he sparked cold a few years back.rhino222 wrote:crow wrote:

Then what prevented him ?Jeff Thomas wrote:Sprott was first to initiate nearly every exchange, he tried to make a fight of it
Audley had only one arm after the second rd.
Sprott gives him feints, pauses and chats, and throws a few punches there and then; waits for Audley to quit or the audiance to fall atsleep.
This was for an European belt.
Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
I'm not a fan of Harrison but do we have to give him credit tonight for his chin? He took some heavy shots. I still think a more polished heavyweight would have got him out of there but he stood up well to some of Sprott's shots.

Gutted for Michael Sprott.
But quite simply you have to give credit to Audley - whether we like it or not - he is the European Heavyweight Champion and that is certainly more than many of us expected him to do.

i really dont know what fight you were watching, have you got cataracts ???crow wrote:Take away the ko and you have a 12 rds dreary win for Sprott against an chineless one armed foe he sparked cold a few years back.rhino222 wrote:crow wrote:

it was a decent fight, on par or better than a lot of the FFN crap that is served up to us in this day and age.
it you were not happy with last nights action then i suggest you change your mode of sporting interest to netball!! ... or dressage with spud !!
Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
There's plenty of good FFN fights; just not in the HW division; it speaks volumes for the quality of this division that these two were fighting for an European belt.rhino222 wrote: it was a decent fight, on par or better than a lot of the FFN crap that is served up to us in this day and age.

If boxing only had the HW division, the UFC would be the number one combat sports in the world.

Sprott is extremely under-rated. Lets not forget the times he has been screwed by the judges, he had unlucky decisions go against him against Hoffman, Bidenko and Virchis. And had very close losses in a European title fight agaisnt Paolo Vidoz who was probably having the best days of his career when the 2 fought ( on my scorecard I had Sprott losing by 2 against Vidoz.)

Agreed, he boxed his heart out and would of beaten Harrison if he hadnt gone for it that last round. He boxed very well and looked so up for it, he was also an absoulote gentleman after the fight

Lol, they say the word LEGEND is frequently overused in sport.funso banjo baby wrote:Sprott is a legend
Ali, Lewis, Holmes, Foreman.... are legends.
Michael Sprott seems a good amiable guy, but he is not a legend in boxing circles.
I'd use the words 'Decent honest pro' instead

Re: Micheal Sprott: Credit to British Boxing
ive said this before but inbetween the first and last Danny Williams fights, Sprotty was the best thing out there. He came in late for the first Williams and got stopped, but then went storming through the likes of Potter..... took out Kenna with the 'sprotty Q' in round one. He was like a demon in the 2nd Williams and i thought the ref was a bit crap with the low blows. Add that to the win over Williams, the extraordinary results in germany ...and the Ko of Auds. Thats some career.
and maybe we will see him in prizefighter.
hes still head and shoulders above the likes of Primo Fisting...(not in height , obviously)

Michael is a top bloke, spoke to him before at a show, always chatty and friendly towards boxing fans.
Jim Evans must be gutted as well, just 1 round away from having the Euro Championship. Both guys are what makes this sport great.

i recall the 2nd skelton fight in which sprott did very little. ppl were very down on him at the time...
