Was this due to his hand injuries?

Why question something by you? God forbid, when you seem to be stalking most boxers.

Having just read a preview of the fight in today's Boxing News, it seemed a surprising thing to hear.

Also, if he has only just pulled out of the fight, has a hand injury and is just 27, it would seem to be a knee-jerk reaction after a long training camp, rather than a long thought-out decision to end his career. So I would question whether that decision was ready for broadcast rather than just his present frustration is another thing.

How many boxers have you heard say "I'm quitting" straight after a loss or an injury, only to change their mind two months later? Maybe he won't thank you for telling everyone.

Gary's a nice guy
He had decided to retire once before (last year) so I am not altogether surprised given the turn of events this week.

A question may be either a linguistic expression used to make a request for information, or else the request itself made by such an expression. This information is provided with an answer.
on this basis i still say its a perfectly good question.

All the best Gary,

I only saw him fight once live, when he lost to Facey, but he was well up for the scrap.

surely he wouldnt retire just because of a hand injury? probably didnt feel up to it and didnt have anything in him to do 12 rounds especially.

yeah i was just guessing about the hands, but if he has a serious injury there, they are the tools of his trade, so boxing would be out of the question.
