I went to Barnes & Noble tonight to looke for boxing magazines. I found only one, Boxing Digest. In the same area, I found 7 MMA magazines, 3 pro wrestling magazines, several martial arts magazines including an amateur one, and a bunch of bodybuilding magazines. Our sport needs more publicity and more publications.
Fans of amateur boxing need to really support the sport and purchase boxing magazines and boxing related merchandise. If boxing fans want our sport to really succeed, they should try to recruit new fans to the sport. Often all it takes is for a person to go to 1 or 2 boxing shows to fall in love with the sport.
Lack of boxing publications
Re: Lack of boxing publications
I know how you feel, theres only ONE spot where I can find "The Ring" magazine and forget about looking for anything dealing with amateur boxing...Dennis wrote:I went to Barnes & Noble tonight to looke for boxing magazines. Re: Lack of boxing publications
Ring magazine recently started dedicating two pages to amateur boxing, but at almost nine dollars an issue, and not really worth buying.

Re: Lack of boxing publications
Print publication is hurting big time all around. You'll be surprised with how mobile internet reading has taken off among youths. Boxing is a step behind but if we have more boxing writers at the local level all over the country to publish local boxing events... that'll draw the crowds into the sport! I call it grassroot boxing because it needs to start off with us rather than wait on the local media to publicize boxing! The web is more efficient and effective. This is the initiative I've taken... google Wichita Boxing Examiner and check out some of the articles I've written on the local amateur boxing.
I always take the advice Muhammad Ali gave... speak like you're the greatest... even if you're not. Place your energy and excitement into something making it bigger than what it is... over time it'll be big! We need ya'll to carry this passion if not in the boxing gyms... do it on your computer!
