Just watched the On the Ropes doc again, stumbled across it as i was going through diff clips on you tube.

Just wondered if anyone knew when scott was going to be released? and what his plans were? so frustrating to think what if.

thanks.

He is a complete and utter waste of oxygen who should NEVER get his licence back and it was ridiculous it was ever even an option. The moment a boxer uses his skills to assault someone, especially a female, they should be stripped of their licence for a period and if they re-offend then it should be a life ban. A licence to box should be a privilege and people who abuse it don't deserve it.

I hope he enjoys his time in jail with all the "brand new" rapists and child abusers!

I thought he was one dimensional.

As a human being he was despicable. Bashing women and driving about peed out of his tiny brain.

Unfortunately our sport is seemingly full of them.

i don't think he was that good. just very strong. he was a title claimant at a time in which barrera, pacquiao and marquez were champs. he was never really in the picture, was he? i know there was a WBO purse bid for marquez but that didn't go anywhere nor was it going to go anywhere.

he seemed to be an uneasy world champion and - going by the first medina fight and the polo fight - his position as titlist always seemed a bit precarious. he did have a great win over a smaller mccullough and destroyed brodie with body shots but otherwise his title run was so-so.

What are you, ten? Or related?

How did the best boxer Scotland ever have get his head boxed off by the remains of Manuel Medina, brought in after suffering brutal beatdown after brutal beatdown to make the home fighter look good? Have you never watched Ken Buchanan, an undisputed champion who defeated all-time great fighters like Ismael Laguna & Carlos Ortiz, fighters who wouldn't have lost to Medina if they were seventy?

Harrison won fights through draining his nuts off & coming in with a big weight advantage. Buchanan won them through athletic skill, boxing talent & superior guile. The two don't even stand comparison.

Also, while we're at it, Walter Macgowan was ten times more talented than Harrison, beat better opponents & lost to far better men for the title.

& don't get me started on Benny Lynch, who -- though footage is rare -- if you look at his record managed to at least clean up his division, instead of being a mickey-mouse partial belt holder who never beat a top five at his weight opponent, hid at home fighting retreads from smaller weight-divisions, old shot men & took a pasting from Victor Polo (that fight was never a draw, btw), whose own limitations were brutally exposed by Juan Manuel Marquez in his very next fight.

I'm glad you have a liking for your dude, but he was just a regional attraction who got hold of a belt & cynically milked it against a variety of men designed to make him look good; the fact that he stumbled whilst fighting the likes of those who were meant to be target practice means he can never be mentioned in the same breath as Lynch, MacGowan or Buchanan.

IMO.

the reason scott got beat by medina was he had food poisioing and was throwing his ring up seconds before he went into the ring, scott being scott didn't want to let his fans down and went ahead with the fight but please beleive me medina would have got what he got the second time if scott wasn't ill. i get a bit pissed off when people get scotts in the ring acheivement mixed up with whats happened outside the ring.As for scott being strong you dont win world titles by just being strong this clearly shows your lack of knowledge, ask any pro boxer if im wrong they will all give the same answer.nobody in the UK could have touched him and that would have included nicky cook who scott would have destroyed imo.the only fault in scotts career was he never moved up through the weights but that wasnt my decision to make.

You're obviously closer to the situation than I, & I apologise if my reaction to your words was hyperbolic & over-heated.

However, I say again: apart from your contention (obviously strongly held) that Scott was the greatest Scot of all time, who did he beat to prove this in the ring? Who are the great men he beat? How do the best of his (carefully matched) victims compare with the wins of Lynch, Buchanan & MacGowan? Was he also ill when thoroughly outboxed by the solid gatekeeper-type Polo? & is it a coincidence that he was ill both times he met decent featherweights who knew how to throw a jab & not stand there to get hit back with the incoming?

As to my contention that it was sheer physical strength that was his best quality, I concede that he was capable of ordered boxing on an international-class level, possessed a very solid chin & was capable of sustaining a solid if not whirlwind-like workrate. But apart from that, what else did he show? When did he show his marvellous boxing talent or devastating one-punch power? What prime featherweights above contender/international gatekeeper level did he beat? What about his obvious defensive deficiencies, his tactical limitations (throwing up seemed to stop him stepping the right way to catch up with Medina, for instance, & it also affected his ability to move his head), his lack of another gear or plan once his pressure & volume game was not working.

I await your response.

Best,

Datsue

PS: Nicky Cook was a good Euro-level fighter. I'm not sure why you have brought him into this, as I for one do not think beating Cook would've made Scott the greatest Scot ever. Scott was definitely better than Cook, imo.

Had Scott fought Barrera &/or Marquez & thoroughly bested the pair of them (or even squeaked out a majority verdict or something), then I would say your argument for Scott being the greatest Scot ever had some weight. But he did not get to meet them (for whatever reason) & I think it's safe to say on the actual evidence (what Marquez did to Medina & Polo, directly before & directly after Scott fought them respectively) that it would have been two long, painful & frustrating nights for him, which means I cannot consider Scott the best at his weight in the world at the time, which is something both Buchanan & Lynch achieved & why I rate them more highly than him.

It's a shame but Scott was actually close to meeting Marquez before he got into all this trouble. Whether his team would have taken the fight is another matter but I distinctly remember there being talk of a Marquez-Harrison match-up.

Agree, he wouldn't have beaten Buchanan, but Scott Harrison was a hell of a fighter inside the ring.

Lots of talk. Precious little actual progress. Add Guzman to that list too.

Obviously Arthur v Harrison was the fight which would have been good, two Lightweights cheating the scales, head to head.
