Katsidis vs Murray ! WAR !

Post by TJAY »

After Micheal Katsidis stunning win last night over Kevin Mitchell who i think needs to go back down to super feather he just not big enough.
I would love to see Euro Champ John Murray in with Katsidis both bring there war game and love to work up close this is surely a must see fight !
He said he is England for a while yet why dont they try doing a deal now whilst he is in the Country .
Lets get it on :box:

i don't think murray has a promoter who will bring over world class fighters like katsidis for him. even if mitchell had beaten katsidis, murray wouldn't have been on mitchell's radar. there's nothing wrong with being hopefuly and things can happen but i never saw it as being too likely.

methinks murray v kudriavtsev is the next step, and then a mexican or american on shobox, showtime's prospect program. showtime have lost all their light welters, seemingly. but they have been into lightweights a while. valero died, demarco battered. there might be an opening for murray. someone like humberto soto can't get major TV dates in the usual title fights, but perhaps if murray could build up to a fight with soto...

katsidis will gun for the world title again.

i would love to see it. murray has the more compact style than mitchell, is physically stronger, keeps his chin lower and throws excellent short punches. he's much more comfortable on the inside than mitchell. and at some point you defintiely have to fight off katsidis. it will be a nightmare keeping katsidis off. but it's very possible that murray would rise to the challenge with his hard pace and quality clean punching.

but if this kudriavtsev fight is happening (if), then murray will surely have plenty on his plate already. the ukrainian is a good fighter.

It would be a great fight but Katsidis does everything Murray does well slightly better than Murray. He is stronger, hits harder and a better defence. I would see it being competitive with Katsidis stopping him late

I think Murray would end up getting out-classed in much the same way that Mitchell did...........

Murray is a Euro fighter at best IMO

I'd like to see Murray defend his Euro belt at the same time that Mitchell has a warm up fight and then get them in together in a domestic dust up. I think that would now be a good cross roads fight.

I'm a big fan of Murray and get behind him all the way.

But lets check their form :

Murray stopped Buckland in 11 rounds

Katsidis tonks Mitchell in 3 rounds.

Can't see Murray doing much better than Mitchell myself. I think he would last longer but would still get overpowered eventually. Katsidis is world class.

I also agree with the people who say Mitchell should move back down. One thing I noticed in the publicity shots for this fight was how much bigger Katsidis looked overall. It might sound like a strange observation, but Katsidis even had a much bigger head and neck than Mitchell. It was a bit like seeing David Haye next to Valuev, you just thought, how is he supposed to put a dent in this guy? The trouble for Mitchell might be that he's too big for super feather and just not big enough for lightweight...

doesn't necessarily mean that much. mitchell loses all his defense once he gets tagged, and a fighter like katsidis would always go in for the kill. it was a yson-bruno part 2 kind of fight.

murray is much more solid inside than mitchell, and he has some very good close range shots. he's also bigger and stronger at 135 than mitchell. i think he can function well in the eye of the storm, thanks to his strength, temperament and infighting skills, and at the very least he'd give katsidis a really good fight.

what you're saying could mean that murray doesn't have the power to budge katsidis. but he has the punching technique to make a terrible mess of the hittable aussie's face.

Murray-Katsides is a natural, however, let's hope John isn't allowed to make the same mistakes that were made with Mitchell, if Murray is to be given a serious chance of winning.

Murray needs either a couple of top EBU challengers or a top 10 contender to bring him up to the required level to compete with Katsides. Mitchell simply wasn't prepared for this level of competition. Johannson and Prescott were getting him on the right track, but it wasn't enough as it turned out. I thought his talent would be enough, but too many Warren stinkers cost him.

If and when he John does this, Murray-Katsides will be a blistering spectacle to watch and at least Murray goes into it on competitive terms. Not just an unbeaten record and talent.

i like the way this has been said, as though it's Warren's fault Mitchell isn't good enough..

who knows, maybe with 3 or 4 more learning fights, Mitchell would magically have developed the power to keep Katsidis off him, the chin to take his punches, and the slick movement and skills needed to outbox Katsidis..

yeah, like the absence of the above qualities in Mitchell can be laid solely at the door of FW's matchmaking...

before the fight so many people were saying how FW has the knack of getting opponents at the right point in their careers....

but now our little eastend goldenboy, trade fighter/forum favourite, gets battered, and its FW's fault

no personal dig at you intended there BUTCH it just strikes me as wise-after-the-event stuff, the same people saying Mitchell was going to do all kinds of evil things to Katsidis, with all those skills Mitchell apparently has but simply chose to never show, the same people are now queuing up to have a pop at FW

sorry guys Mitchell was nowhere near good enough and FW ws never going to make him so......

After the Johannson and Prescott wins, I thought Mitchell could pull this off, but he's also had a lot of soft matchmaking, as is nearly always the case with Warren boxers.

It's true that Mitchell might never have the beating of Katsides, but if he'd followed a more traditional path, it wouldn't be down to lack of solid opposition.

aye true

he may also have ended up in fights vs people like Romanov and Murray and would be shot from all the punches he had taken, by the time he got to 'world' level. oh, oops, sorry, forgot Mitchell's slick unseen skills would have meant he wouldn't have taken too many shots...

were you asking if his matchmaking was good enough before the fight or is it just a reaction to the defeat?

I can honestly say Mitchell's matchmaking has been an issue from very early on.

I'm gutted for Mitchell, but at one point in his career, wouldn't have been bothered at all had he lost like he did on Saturday because he was getting matched soft and his attitude came across terribly, but at somewhere along the line he seemed to turn things around and his matchmaking improved.

Herol Graham somehow managed to come up short in world title fights, but it wasn't through lack of opposition.

I think the thing to remember with Kevin was he was very young when turned pro,18 I think so still growing and learning. I dont see what the problem is protecting a young talented fighter. From the age of 22-25 he was matched perfectly starting with Carl Johanneson and a few more good wins and then Prescott a warm up and title shot in his backyard... think his promoter/manager done a brilliant job really. Things went tits up on the night but thats life!

He's only 25 still got time on his side.

Just would like to say that John Murray would love to be involved in a fight with Michael Katsidis , John feels like he has served his apprenticeship, he has his critics , but i would say styles makes fights .
I am confident we can beat Katsidis given the opportunity.Just dont be too quick to write off John Murray chances, when we beat Michael then hopefully John Murray will get his recognition if not well i assure u it will be one hell of a battle and it be not for the want of trying.

I wouldn't bet against Murray, but surely he'd benefit from a fight or two in world class before tackling someone as powerful as Katsides :??

What do you think to Khan's dad saying in todays Mirror that Murray "talked himself out" of fighting Khan with "excessive demands"?

First i have heard and am sure John will be amused by the claim , all i say there was some talks between both promoters at the time who looked after both fighters but nothing materlised , Me and John were asked would we fancy the fight and we said yes. " Like to know wat excessive demands John wanted "
PS I have not read article but why is Shah mentioning this now Amir is in a differant weight division and doing well. We are going about our business about becoming a World Champ at 135 .
Like a lot of fights over the years an opportunity to make them there and then when they are hot sometimes get over cooked and the moment passes by Amir V John had its moment and unless Amir comes down and wants a catch weight fight then that could be a option , his trainer freddie is very keen on catch weight fights for Manny . so he may do it with Amir .
But i wish Amir and his dad Shah continued success in USA .

Doubt short arms, deep pockets would pay for Katsidis to come over esp for a non televised bout.
Maybe the Aussie's would take John over there
