Khan's better than Hatton
Khan's better than Hatton
I was a big fan of Hatton but I believe Khan would beat Hatton in his prime. Since going with Freddie Roach Khan has improved more and more - he's nowhere near his peak yet, he can unify the division and move up one or two weights too.

Re: Khan's better than Hatton
Technically Khan is already better than Hatton was at his peak and is improving with every fight under the guidance of Roach. His speed is phenomenal, he is very strong at the weight and has decent power. I believe Khan's punch resistance and also defence is definitely better ever since he joined up with Roach and moved up a weight. However, like Hitman I'd like to see him in with a big hitter before I worry about who he would've beat or not as the case may be.

Khan doesn't have enough pop to stop a prime Hatton in his tracks. He's also too green to cope with Hatton up close. It would be a brutal loss.
The potential's there, but let's not get carried away, eh?

Hatton is one of the most over-rated fighters in modern history

Indeed. Still better than young Khan though.

prime hatton wins by tko within the first 5 rounds.
Re: Khan's better than Hatton
I think people are over rating Khan at the moment, while also under rating how good Hatton was at his prime, I don't think Khan would KO Hatton and I don't think Khan could deal with Hattons work rate and inside fighting, it would be a brutal loss for Khan who would unlikely make it to the second half of the fight.

Re: Khan's better than Hatton
how does one's punch resistance suddenly improve? fighting guys that don't have a punch? Khan does not look much different to me at all, and alot of people see this totally transformed fighter now that Roach has taken over when really i think it's Khan beating guys he's supposed to beat.
Also everybody talks about how Khan's defense has improved and i see the same guy for the most part, Paulie was able to tag Khan with that left hook a bit and i believe a harder handed fighter would've given him trouble. Khan is being terribly overrated right now.
oh yeah i'd take Hatton over Khan.

Khan could not keep a prime Hatton off him for long, he'd be stopped inside 6 rounds.
Calling Hatton one of the most overated fighters in modern history is well over the top. I'd agree he was overated to some extent, but on the flip side i think he was also underated in some respects. He was not the crude, come forward slugger some think he was, Hatton was an intelligent pressure fighter with underated skills. He was a very worthy world champion and was the top man at 140 for several years. Put it this way, i, along with many others i presume, would take a prime Hatton to clean up todays welterweight division in style.

Not having to drain to make lightweight helps a bit. The rest of his game is what's improved. The chin will always be a problem.DeepSleep. wrote:how does one's punch resistance suddenly improve? fighting guys that don't have a punch? Not having to drain and also putting on the extra pounds in the right places. In Khan's case the neck and legs.glittermonkey wrote:Not having to drain to make lightweight helps a bit. I think you need to head back to that 'fuzzball' forum MIG.MIG wrote:I was a big fan of Hatton but I believe Khan would beat Hatton in his prime. Re: Khan's better than Hatton
Some great responses here - I knew this would get a reaction! I always thought Khan was really over-rated and wasn't surprised when Prescott blew him away - I even won money on that. However, look at the fighter that's emerged since that loss and he's nowhere near his full potential yet - don't think there's many that could cope with his speed, size and power. Yes he needs to fight a heavy hitter - but I think he's grown physically and can take the punches now.
We'll see...
I think that Khan would beat a prime Hatton just with his sheer size and speed, he wouldn't outclass him like Mayweather did - but he would stop him late on - maybe on cuts.

Son, you can bets your ass that if the likes of Willie Limond and Breidis Prescott can knock Kahn on his ass... Then it's a safe bet that Hatton will floor him repeatedly...
And what's more, Hatton will hurt him!!!
And just for your information, Hatton has Never been stopped on cuts and I can't see it starting if he were to fight Amir Kahn.
Of course, this is talking prime-for-prime.
Re: Khan's better than Hatton
I have to see Khan against top light welterweights who have some power before I could even entertain the notion that he is better than Hatton. In my opinion Khan is in possession of many things that could cause any version of Hatton some major problems. Lightening fast hands, good footwork, continually improving boxing ability and defense, and size.
However, Hatton is a very good fighter and much better than anyone Khan has ever faced. He is very strong and deceptively quick and skilled, with his only losses coming to fighters who are arguably all time greats, something which I don't think Khan will become. In my opinion Hatton at his best would eventually break through Khan's shield and stop him but certainly it wouldn't be an easy nights work for Hatton, as long as Khan fights with discipline.
I don't think right now is really the best time to compare Khan to a prime Hatton as I feel Khan is still improving under Roach and will continue to get better with a little more experience. However, at this point in his career I can't say Khan is better than the best version of Hatton.

Khan certainly has a better set of tools to work with than Hatton did. I think with Roach showing him how to use them, he has more upside.

technically Khan has better skills, but fighting Hatton at 140 will be a nightmare for Khan.
Bad match-up for Khan. I don't see Khan going 12-rounds with Hatton.

Against Hatton's schedule, Khan would have the exact same record, but he wouldn't get embarrassed against Manny like Hatton did.

Re: Khan's better than Hatton
When all is said and done Khan will likely peak at a with more stature than Hatton but a prime Hatton mauls the current version of Khan enough to eventually wear him down and stop him late. The key is footspeed, and prime Hatton had it in spades, allowing him to blunt many opponents' power by not allowing them to hit him completely flush and with full extension. He'd be in Khan's face all night.
Khan is improving with every fight, but that chin is a huge liability and it's gonna get clipped again just like Hatton's was and just like Cotto's was (referring to early signs of chin-instability and eventual brutal defeats and near-losses).

Actually, given what we know of his chin, he might have been KO'ed by Pacquaio as quickly.BAD INTENTIONS wrote:< Hatton had ONE big fight in his career ... maybe the Castillo fight counts as a half. So how was he SO GOOD?

However he is still young and might well have a better career than Hatton in the long run.

Are you mad?
1. Floyd Mayweather Jr
2. Manny Pacquaio
3. Kostya Tzsyu
ANY of these guys would give you a hard nights work.
And lets count Castillo as a 1/2...
Then we have: Malignaggi, Lazcano, Urango, Maussa, Collazo
Yeah, I think we can safely say that Hatton had at leasta dozen big fights.

And right now, people should'nt start concluding Khan is better than Hatton;
no way to tell right now, skills is not the end all of comparison; we had
yet to see Khan's heart, chin (improvement), passion (will he stay at top).
