Sky Bill last night- they are taking the PI55!!!!

Post by Jeff Thomas »

That was a great show last night but you'd have never of guessed it. Their coverage is terrible and its becoming progressively worse. One fight and a few rounds of another. The bill was fabulous and thats all they could manage.

Time to write a letter.

Anyone like to join me?

Their coverage is terrible and we need it to improve.... All this ppv money must go on go-karts or curling by the looks of it.

I like it so much better when they show to live fights instead of highlights of other fights on the undercard

Post midnight what the feck else have they got thats so important that they couldnt show the undercard.

we say highlight of a cracking fight with McIntyre but they totally ignored

Luis Garcia

Andy Murray

Carl Frampton

Gavin Rees

as well as a host of other fights. Why not air these?

Thats Sky. Football, golf, rugby, cricket etc all get full coverage whereas with boxing, they just dont seem to have the same interest. Sadly boxing is no longer a top sport in this country, the golden age of the sport has gone. For a while Amir Khan revived public interest with his fights on ITV. Then he went to SKY PPV and it all came to an end. Before Sky when boxing was on ITV and BBC and everyone could see it, boxing was more popular.

on paper it did not look like a good show, in their defence skys airing decisions have to be made before the event, not in retrospect.

Tip to SKY - ration Jim Watt to about ten minutes a round
Had a look at some fights from the 80s the other day - about 50% less commentary
Does Jim Watt think he's on the radio?
I'm afraid he is also negative and repetative

I think Jim must have been tut tuting all the way through Dave Darts and Johnny Nelson's hype at the start.

I've championed, and I still do, McCloskey - but it was way over the top. Comparisons to Barry McGuigan!!!! naming Irish "world" champions and saying McCloskey is already a champion. Yes he is, but not a world champion.

But to top it off - the hype of Lauri.... a decent operator - but according to Nelson, demonstrating some creditial by getting flatterend early by Hatton and Witter. Nelson didn't highlight that this was a sign that Lauri isn't amongst the elite, but a sign of his toughness and experience. No mention of the drab, more recent, displays against Ted Bami.

It was rediculously over the top, and Watt had every right to say "cool down now" - Lauri isn't that, and he is giving McCloskey a tough nights work.

Sky boxing coverage has been awful the last 18 months. I cancelled my subscription this year. The main events have been terrible on so many occasions, and whilst it is good they have shown top US bouts and Klitschkos etc; their UK offering has been toilet.

The sadly missed Setanta channel used to show several undercard fights live also.

If i remember right, Sky did try this on the Maloney show a couple of months back and the Eastern European opponents all lasted a round so perhaps they decided to go back to one live fight plus highlights where they can pick the best of the action.
I would prefer live action myself too.

Come on guys, they made a rick on Friday and I have been very critical of Sky in the past but they have invested a lot in boxing since Setanta went down the swanny.

Mayweather-JMM
Cotto-Pacman
Berto-Quintana
Pacman- Clottey
Mitchell Katsidis
Mayweather- Mosley
Williams- Cintron

All on SS1, and we get british bills pretty much every Friday

I think they are doing pretty well all things considered.

Yeah thats true they've almost single handedly kept boxing alive in Britain- maybe they shouldnt have started a title fight from round 4 though.
