Setting ex champ José "Cheito" Ruiz story straight!

Post by tomasiomch »

Box rec has this story on his Biography---->Reportedly, an Elvis Irizarry recruited Ruiz to participate in an armed robbery in early 1997. Ruiz in turn attempted to recruit two of his friends to help out, but they refused. The relationship between Ruiz and Irizarry soured in February 1997, when Irizarry told several people that he suspected that Ruiz had burglarized his apartment. Thereafter Ruiz started to avoid Irizarry. Ruiz left his house with Irizarry on Feb. 28, 1997, and was never seen alive again. His body was found the next day near a local high school. He'd been shot in the right ear at close range. Irizarry later admitted to killing Ruiz to his girlfriend.

Now this is the real story--->On September 24, 1992, before he was able to make a rematch official, Ruíz was shot and murdered in one of San Juan's barrios.[9] At the moment of his death, the pugilist was a month away from his 26th birthday.[1] Domingo Álvarez, the coroner that attended the scene, noted that the pugilist's body displayed six bullets wounds that presumably caused his death instantly.[9] According to the official report filed by Álvarez, Ruíz was exiting Villas de Lomas Verdes, a condominium in the district of Cupey, in his vehicle, when two unknown assailants approached the vehicle on foot and opened fire at close range, subsequently fleeing the scene.[9] At the moment, no official causes were disclosed for the murder. However, José "Toto" Peñagarícano, former president of the Puerto Rico Boxing Commission subsequently stated that Ruíz was murdered because he supposedly had a relationship with the girlfriend of an unidentified drug lord.[10] After an extensive trial, judge José Torres Caraballo sentenced two culprits for the murder. Ruíz was survived by eight daughters.[2] On October 16, 1993, one year after his death, a massive boxing card was held by the Comité Pro-Familiares José "Cheíto" Ruíz (lit. "Committee For the Wellbeing of José "Cheíto" Ruíz's Family") which featured the participation or support of seven Puerto Rican world champions. Among the pugilists present were Félix Trinidad, Wilfredo Vázquez, Santos Cardona, John John Molina, Orlando Fernández, Daniel Jiménez, Rafael del Valle and Josué Camacho.
