things never change

Post by Adamj1987 »

i recently bought a bunch of old ring magazines from the 50s, 70s and 90s specifically the Louis-charles preview and the ali-fraiser-forman fights preview issuses and the phrases and issues raised in each magaize are similar to todays

eg: the louis-charles preview issue from 1950 uses the phrase "the way the heavyweights go so does boxing" when did someone coin that phrase it was refered to as an old saying then.

jeff ryan talks about geting rid of standing 8 counts (which i agree)

and these is an article on how PPV will ruin boxing for the mainstream fan and quoting the then undefeated michael nunn as upset aout his lack of recognision

Not sure when the phrase about the heavyweight division started. It is true though. When the heavyweight division is weak, the sport as a whole usually suffers.

I agree about the standing 8 count. If a guy is hurt so bad that he can't defend himself, then it should be stopped. If isn't hurt that bad, then the referee should let it play out.

As for PPV's, well it certainly has hurt the popularity of the sport severely.

So those three opinions seem to be on the money.
