The reason why Oakey-Barney was put back

Post by bennie »

TONY OAKEY will not be returning to the ring until the new year – because no-one wants to see a repeat of his clash with Matthew Barney.

The fight was described by Oakey's manager and boxing promoter Frank Maloney as "the worst in the history of British boxing".

The match-up was panned by critics for its quality – with Barney employing hit-and-run tactics and Oakey unable to nail his rival.

Violent scenes after the fight compounded a terrible night for Portsmouth boxing.

Now, the stigma attached to their first fight is threatening to wreck any hopes of a second – with Sky reluctant to risk screening a meeting between the two.

Maloney said: "The best chance we have is to put the fight on an undercard at some point – but not before the new year."

Oakey should forget about Barney and go for the British belt. Its was hardly his fault, after all he's one of the most exiciting fighters in the country.

Isn't there some case for Oakey suing Maloney for loss of earnings?? He's essentially stopping the guy from doing his job.

I think Barney shouldn't stoop to Oakey Cokey's lowly levels any more. He's world champion now after all. I say he calls out the winner of RJJ vs Tarver.

Barney KO9 RJJ
