What is 'Power Boxing?'
What is 'Power Boxing?'
Matthew Hattons' next opponent; Yuriy Nuzhenko has described Matthews style of boxing as; 'power boxing'. I have read that Shane Mosley also uses this style. Mosley and Hatton don't seem to me to box in a similar fashion. Could someone please give an explanation of 'Power Boxing'? Thanks.

Re: What is 'Power Boxing?'
its just a phrase used loosely to describe, umm, a more aggressive boxer than the guys who normally get called boxers.. but the very looseness of the definition is exactly why 2 very diffrent fighters could be defined that way.... IE its not that worthwhile a definition IMO

Re: What is 'Power Boxing?'
A boxer who throws power shots, not a boxer who throws pitter-patter jabs and dances away.
Mosley isn't a slugger or merely a puncher, but if you were tyring to pigeon hole him you couldn't call him a boxer (with boxer being short-hand for cautious, counter-puncher, mover).

when did boxer become synonymous with counter-puncher?DavidPayne wrote:A boxer who throws power shots, not a boxer who throws pitter-patter jabs and dances away.

This is all jingo-cliche nonsense me old mate, I'm just trying and failing to put a definition on power boxer - I aint got a clue what the fkk it means....don't shoot the samaritan my old fruit.

I remember Jack Mosley always talking about doing the pads with Shane and his power boxing style. Never really knew what he meant but presume it had something to do with Mosleys speed, power and 'agressive' boxing - without being a brawler!
