Amir Khan against the best at 140
Amir Khan against the best at 140
So the very talented Tim Bradley was in action tonight and easily outpointed Luis Carlos Abregu at 147 pounds. Bradley showed amazing speed that could match Khan's. Max Kellerman went on about Golden Boy protecting Khan and how a 140 pound tournament with Alexander, Bradley, Khan, and Maidana would probably not occur. It got me thinking though, if Amir Khan was to step in the ring with either Tim Bradley, Marcos Maidana, or Devon Alexander, what would happen in each respective bout?
I think Khan would outclass Maidana, but the other two fights are difficult to predict and I am unsure who I would pick at this point.

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
maidana would KO khan in 3 rounds, its so Easy to forget about how hard maidana hits and how awful khans whiskers are, sure khans the better skilled fighter but common, i can honestly see maidana landing 1 clean left hook and khan lying unconscious on the canvas despite all khans talent i dont see him beating any of them he'll likely loose to all 3 by KO early in the fight and this is comming from some1 who wants to see him succeed, golden boy says they'll put him in with diaz or marquez but even those 2 have a chance of leaving him sprawled on the canvas on there night

KO for Maidana
Khon to outpoint Bradley
Alexander by stoppage or wide points

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
I don't think that Khan will go anywhere near any of them. Bradley is a real role model as a boxer, very skilled, fit as a flea and hits hard and takes a shot. Maidana has far too much power and guts for Amir to face, Devon is still developing and I think Khan could out jab him to points. Khan is up there in terms of ability but his next few opponents will be naturally smaller with a decent record against lightweights. A loaded deck!
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
i would love to see these fights happen, Khan has the skills to possibly keep distance and take any of these fights to a points victory, but i couldnt see that happening, i think Khans best chance against Madaina would be to try stop him, does Khan have the power? Madaina definatly has the guts to make sure he gets his shots off and i cant see him ever trying what he did against Kotelnik again, hes not that type of fighter. Khan would lose all of these imo.Alexander and Bradley have the skills, speed and winning mentality to make sure the land something heavy on him and when that happens Khan will go down like a sack of cats. Thats what makes Khan interesting to watch though imo, the fact he has tons of skill and speed but could go down at any time to anyone. But surley all of these fighters would land something on Khan and that would be it. But Khan cant avoid hungry fighters forever.

He loses to Bradley by late TKO and beats the other two on points....
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
Yea i would go with that
Although i do think hes got tools to beat all 3.
Hope to see him in with one of these guys next
i rate Bradley the most out of them all though

I think Bradley is the easiest match for him out of those 3, he doesn't have their one punch power and imo Khan beats him on UD.
Not sure about the other two though, always a chance of him getting sparked.

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
I like Khan's chances in all of the match-ups mentioned. It's always going to be a tightrope act though as any one of them is capable of scuppering his run with a single shot, they've all got enough power to do damage.
I'd rate Bradley as the most dangerous to Khan though because of his habit of launching explosive shots out of nowhere with great accuracy.

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
maidana seems to have slipped and gone off the radar and it's more likely khan faces victor ortiz, a guy who has come back pretty well and is getting pushed for stardom (whether we like it or not).

i hope these matches are mad and hope amir goes and proves us wrong , i think at 140 hes alot stronger , and maybe weight making took its toll in the prescott fight , think khan beats all 3 but all very very interesting !! the one who i think will beat khan is zab judah ,
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
Khan's looking pretty good at 140lbs. He looks powerful and seems to have obtained a chin. People thought it was a given that when he got hit off Kotelnik he would die, but he took one or two decent shots without dancing. I think Khan will be P4P#10 soon.

That chin will be aight @ 147 lbs.
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
In the wake of Kotelnik-Alexander, I wonder if anyone has changed their opinion about the outcome of an Alexander-Khan fight. Kotelnik outlanded Alexander and landed the cleaner, harder shots through out the fight. His defence was also much better and Alexander had an extremely difficult time hitting him.
Many people posting in the CS though Kotelnik did enough to win, and frankly I thought he did as well. Even Bob Papa of HBO had Kotelnik winning and Kellerman went on all fight about how Kotelnik was having a lot of success. Compare this to Kotelnik-Khan, where it was difficult to give more than two rounds to the Ukrainian.
Khan's stock went up a bit tonight.

Devon was terrible tonight, though I think the crowd got to him and he was over confident. This win will do more for him in the long run than many may think.
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
Maidanas power is known... you fight knowing you have a big puncher opposite you plan accordingly... Khan is fast and rangy and can dig himself... whos to say he doesnt make him miss then make him pay?
I actually see Bradley as the L fight in this. He has under-rated power and is like a 10-stone steamroller - technically sound with a great engine.

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
....problem for Khan is that he can't take a punch. His boxing ability has never been questioned.
Devons showing doesn't tell us anything new on Khan.

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
ring mag's website did a feature on who'd win a tournament and they picked khan.
he certainly looks better than alexander now. i actually felt alexander was really gassing vs urango, before knocking out urango spectacularly. urango had just gone the distance with berto at welter, so alexander was hailed as a "future star".
kotelnik's fights can be hard to score. i had him beating m'baye twice, but in the rematch i think m'baye was supposed to keep the title and eventually pass it on to khan.
surely there is an opponent out there, with the wrong style for khan, who would give khan serious problems (the equivalent of which alexander had vs kotelnik). but we tend not to see these fights because there is more money behind khan and his promoter apparently can get him on HBO without boxing's biggest paymaster forcing a hard opponent on to him (look how tough paul williams' options are - dzinziruk and martinez - though i'd love to see "the punisher" beaten by either).

Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
Alexander's a young guy, just like Khan. Had a bad night, got through it. Can't se him being pushed towards Khan/Bradley for now.
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
isn't bradley-alexander set for january?
those 2 will have to fight each other to stay on HBO, methinks.
badley's had some ropey nights (down twice vs holt and very inaccurate with his own shots), alexander has had one, and obviously khan was blown out by prescott in a novice-like performance on SBO PPV.
i'm not sure if alexander underestimated kotelnik. before the fight he was saying kotelnik was a better technical fighter than bradley, for instance.

thats up to you ... But its surprising they pick a guy who has beaten nobody of note at the weight with a devastating loss - over a better established guy without a loss...but who does own the Ring? And remind us who Khan is with again....?
Re: Amir Khan against the best at 140
It's easy for me to see why people would pick Khan to win a 140 pound tourney. Khan is extremely talented and would have a size advantage over most of the top fighters at 140. Bradley and Alexander are not punchers (and frankly Alexander looked like shit against an opponent Khan outclassed), Maidana is very limited, and Ortiz has not been living up to the hype.
I'm not saying Khan would actually win a tournament like the one The Ring came up with, but surely anyone who looks at this objectively can see how he could win it.
