Check out the BBC's report of Ronald "Winky" Wright's successful title defence last night. They've got a picture of Winky with the report, except it's not Winky at all, it's Bronco McKart.
Whatever happened to BBC sport?

I thought that the commentary during the Johnson vs Woods fight was terrible... at times they seemed to be watching a different fight..... they made such a fuss when ever Woods landed one of his infrequent punches and often gave him rounds on the strength of such punches even though he was taking far more shots than Johnson and often on ropes covering up or moving away doing nothing.
On the plus side it's good to see the BBC showing boxing again.... and some great fights too.... Mayaorga ...Gatti!!!..... so we shouldn't grumble too much.
Mind you I d like to say BRING BACK HARRY CARPENTER PLEASE!!!

Duke McKenzie is a passionate little commentator and sometimes gets carried away, he proclaimed on Sunday night during the Jones-Tarver match "Jones of course beat David Ruiz" Lol. I hate that Roland guy too, he knows sod all about Boxing and is a dire presenter too.

Apparently he (Roland) is a regular at many boxing shows and is very knowledegable and a nice guy to boot. If it's good looking you want might I suggest Pop Idol.

I think Roland does a fine job. He's very clear and presents the fights very well. Plus he didn't have any second thoughts about getting into a mini-ruck with Audley when the big man was avoiding the Danny Williams/British title issue the other week.

Roland looks genuinely interested when he's asking for Richie & Bunceys thoughts - sometimes I get the feeling Inverdale has somewhere else he'd rather be.

Have to say that I like Roland who contrary to the rather smarmy Inverdale looks like he has areal interest in boxing....... Inverdale knows absolutely sod all about boxing and looks like he doesn't even like it either.

No, I always get that impression with Inverdale. He doesn't like the sport.

Inverdale is a good journalist, who likes a good story. I think he perfers alot of this will they won't they as opposed to the actual fighting and this refects in his work. To be honest I thought he was excellent when Williams, Woodhall, Bunce and himself were all having a go at Harrison who was on the phone in the US.

That was the best part of the BBC coverage since their return (apart from the actual action).

Yup maybe i was a little harsh on Roland, he is ok as a presenter but he was a little jittery when he first appeared as an after fight interviewer i remember his questions to Harrison and Haye were painfully simple. I think he deserves another chance, Inverdale though i agree he is just always after a controversial story and overplays everything that happens. But surely everyone we are all united in our hatred of.....GARY RICHARDSON!! And i thought Alan Partridge was struggling to get back onto the Beeb

He is Alan reincarnated, i am sure Audley would love a pop at him in the ring 8)

Has there ever been a more aggresive and illinformed interviewer than Garry Richardson?....... he just goes for the controversial and always seems to be trying to rile the boxer he's interviewing...... he's smarmy and annoying and KNOWS ABSOLUTELY ZILTCH about boxing.
Personally I think Richardson and Inverdale are long lost brothers!.

I don't like bbc coverage, it's so minimalist. Usually there's no ringwalks or anything, it's rarely live (if ever

) above all else though the commentary is abysmal. What'shisname with the Northern Irish accent is probably the worst commentator aside from Bob Sheridan in the world, having said that though Duke Mckenzie tops both of them (or should that be bottoms?). I mean what's all this "Willie Joppy" (pronounced yoppy) in every Eastman fight, if the guy's gonna talk about past opponents he could at least learn to say their names.
I just think the whole affair is very half arsed, half the people involved are sky rejects.

I think he's ok, he's corrected a few of his earlier mistakes, like asking truly hideous questions. like after a clearly disappointed David Haye in Miami comes to ringside after fighting a guy that quits after a minute:

"So David, a good night's work then! How did you see the contest?"

Until the Jones/Tarver broadcast I thought John Rawling was an excellent commentator, but then he says something stupid at one point, can't remember what, that totally erases the opinion.

Is it me, or does the BBC have appalling commentators for ALL its sports? That appalling duo who do the athletics and get EVERYTHING wrong, ala jim neilly. also the idiotic peter alliss for golf, barry davies, Clive Everton for the frickin snooker. bloody david mercer for wimbledon.

even when sky send Ian darke off to an obscure football match to make up the commnetary numbers for champions league night, he manages to get through without making a total idiot of himself. boxing is his sport, therefore when he does the football he makes no attempt at punditry and keeps it simple.

bbc is a circus of inept fools. well worth the license fee.

Very knowledgeable about WHAT? Ice Skating.

This guy knows nothing about boxing and he should be replaced or learn something about it.

Duke McKenzie loves the game and whilst he gets his words mixed up, I like him, he gets very excited, a bit like Marv Albert on the old NBC shows in the 1980's.

The BBC should make a pitch for Steve Holdsworth, him and Duke would be good.

Why is Claude Abrams not involved anymore at the BBC. I thought he came across very well?

Mckenzie's garbage, he's got a squeaky/quietish voice and is far worse than Woodhall. So what if he loves the game? So do I but I'd be shite on the box as well. Steve Holdsworth has been on the Beeb once and his sucking up to Inverdale "Yes John, No John, you're right John" did my tits in. It was a far cry from his "tell it as it is" Eurosport commentating.

I prefered Woodhall in the commentary box. Rawling should be there too (although Jim Neilly really doesnt bother me, Mike Costello is fine too). I don't mind Big Ron either. As others pointed out, he seems enthusiastic and is improving.
