I agree - but the closing mod said, if you have a query with regards a fighter then come here - so here I am.sg1985 wrote:I read it earlier. It did get to a silly point, you were just repeating yourselves.

Re: Martin Rogan - 274158
Rogie has an Irish passport, my mates uncle is a close friend of his. (His name is Billy Parker).
But Martin has put himself across as a British fighter, he has been interviewed on tape talking to Eamon McAuley and he presented himself as a British fighter by discussing his propsects for the British title and the Commonwealth.
Martin would have been better though of if he had've fought for the European title,
Or to fight McBride for the Irish Heavyweight title.

So for being so slow - I am Irish, you will have to bare with me.

If that comment is directed at me...the truth wrote:fighters from northern ireland are aloud to fight for the british and commonwealth title as its part of the united kingdom, or are you a bit slow??
I am well aware that fighters from here can fight for for the British and Commonwealth titles. However, as Rogie considers himself an Irish man, it's wrong of him to challenge for these titles.
Of course there's nothing wrong with beating the likes of Skelton and Harrison.
Re: Martin Rogan - 274158
Of please they all do it, and why the fornicate wouldn't they. It helps progress their career hugely and despite just being an Irishman myself if I was a professional boxer and was eligible to fight for the British title I'd do it too.Crease wrote:If that comment is directed at me...the truth wrote:fighters from northern ireland are aloud to fight for the british and commonwealth title as its part of the united kingdom, or are you a bit slow??

Paul McCloskey wouldn't be European champion today if he hadn't of fought for it, and Martin Lindsay wouldn't be the #1 ranked challenger for the Europea Featherweight title if he weren't British champion. The British title helps you significantly if you're trying to win a European title and it also helps to a lesser degree in getting ranked with the WBC. Fighters would be fools not to fight for it.
Re: Martin Rogan - 274158
I agree to a certain extent, but I would not say that it helps hugely.BigEars wrote:It helps progress their career hugely
In the past (actually, more in recent years) there have been quite a few very average fighters to have been British Champion - that also goes for the Commonwealth Title.
As Rogie is a Heavyweight, lets look at it:
Brit Champs: Scott Welch, Mike Holden - you would hardly consider them great fighters.
Commonwealth Champs: Horace Notice and (again) Mike Holden - with the challengers the likes of; Keith Long, Mark Potter, Harry Senior.
The point I am making is that this path should not be considered "the path to success"...BigEars wrote:The British title helps you significantly if you're trying to win a European title and it also helps to a lesser degree in getting ranked with the WBC. Fighters would be fools not to fight for it.
It is very possible and easy enough, providing you have the ability of course, to progress by defeating good fighters with names.
And getting that apparently elusive European Title shot, which leads to the World Titles.
Winning the British and Commonwealth titles isn't as great as you make it out to be... The only thing it does do is help to get a boxer publicity and get his name recognised.
Of course, recognition also comes with beating good fighters on the road.
