has to be one of the best domestic line ups in a while
enzo maccaranelli and ryan rhodes both defending european titles against good opposition, the countries 2 finest middlewieghts, macklin and barker fighting for brittish and european titles, kell brook and michael jennings fighting for the brittish welterwieght title, chisora and sexton rematch for the brittish and commonwealth titles, nathan cleverly in a WBO eliminator and rising stars like degale and frankie gavin on the card as well.

18th sept, LG arena
Re: 18th sept, LG arena
On February 23, 1981, in Madison Square Garden, a huge boxing event dubbed 'This is it!' by promoter Harold J. Smith was to feature Gerry Cooney v Ken Norton, Matthew Saad Muhammad v Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Wilfred Benitez v Thomas Hearns, Alexis Arguello v Hilmer Kenty and Wilfredo Gomez v Mike Ayala. It all seemed too good to be true, and sure enough, Smith was financing the spectacle with embezzled bank funds running into millions of dollars. Posters for the show that never happened occasionally crop up on boxing memorabilia sites.
On September 18, at the LG Arena in Birmingham, another huge boxing event takes place, promoted by F rank Warren, and this really is it with all the fights, with just days to go now, remaining firmly and tantalisingly in place, including a middleweight title bonanza between local puncher Matt Macklin and unbeaten Londoner Darren Barker and a welterweight crunch match between Kell Brook and Michael Jennings. There are also world class match-ups featuring Nathan Cleverly, Enzo Maccarinelli and Ryan Rhodes on the big bill, an intriguing heavyweight rematch between Derek Chisora and Sam Sexton, and step ups for ex-amateur stars Frankie Gavin and James DeGale.
I am most interested in Macklin-Barker and Brook-Jennings, two fantastic domestic showdowns which define the adjective 50-50 or the ghastly Americanism "pick 'em". You fall asleep thinking Barker wins, along with Brook, and wake up thinking Macklin comes through, along with Jennings.

i'm really looking forward to it.
i don't know how, but i've yet to see the lad brook fight yet and he kinda snuck under my radar until recently. by all accounts he's a real talent and i'm keen to see him against a good fighter in jennings. a real test for an up and coming fighter and a big challenge for jenings trying to come back off that heavy pasting he took at the hands of a truely world class talent in cotto.
EDIT : after waxing lyrical about this fantastic line up i've just spotted the news about the barker injury causing his fight with macklin to be dropped from the bill (many peoples headline fight it would appear, that answers my question in the OP i suppose). bit gutted!
i suppose the only possitive to take from this is that it was such a strong line up, it will still be a good show.
Re: 18th sept, LG arena
shame the barker v macklin fight has been cancelled, im gutted
