cue Raff.......
Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
what happened to his "I'll explain in a couple of days what's going on and who i'm fighting" statement from last week?
Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
At the end of the day right or wrong Haye is a money man. All this talk of unifying the division before he's 30 has proved to be nothing other than trash talk.
he's obviously sees the few mill he can make against Audrey as easy money, and who can blame him?? But he will lost credibility fast if he doesnt step up and fight one of the K's or Adamek in his next contest.

But if you can have both then why not? Make a few mill by not breaking sweat against Audrey, then take on Wlad say Feb 2011.

Personally i really like this interview because whether you like what he's saying or not he's being brutally honest to why it isnt happening and i respect that from a boxer!

Assuming Haye thinks he can beat Wlad:
If Haye cared one drop about his legacy he would've taken a smaller percentage. Haye needs Wlad more than the other way around.
If Haye cared about making the most money possible, he would have fought Wlad for a smaller percentage. He would still have made more than he will in a domestic showdown against Audley.
Assuming Haye thing Wlad will beat him:
A 50/50 split would've compensated for the rebuilding and legacy damage caused by a bad loss against Wlad.
A relatively big money domestic showdown against a weak challenger trumps getting spanked for a good chunk more money by a genuine world class fighter.
i always go back to Nigel Benn in conversations like these
sometimes you just have to take the short end of the purse. and if you aren't willing to, you have only one place to look when ascribing blame for your stuttering career.......
Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
I think come Feb 2011 neither of them will have any other place to go, and surely after facing Audrey haye knows that he needs a credible opponent. If the fight isnt made then, then I doubt it ever will happen.MachoMan09 wrote:Fair enough (but there is always a risk of failure, especially at Hwt); and when Feb '11 comes he still won't get 50/50 with Wlad. Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
The Klitschko brothers owe Haye a bit of credit for livening up a dishwater dull division. They weren't fighting in football stadia before David came along. And the Audley fight will be massive in the UK, regardless of the relative merits of the fight. This isn't to say that Haye necessarily deserves parity, but he shouldn't be far off as he represents far and away the most lucrative option for the Klits, short of them facing each other.

Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
Extremely disappointing.
If what Haye says is true, then it all comes down to some money from the German territory alone that has screwed up the fight. Haye may be the more marketable boxer but Wlad has surely earned the right to have a slightly bigger share of the purse by his record at heavyweight? It seems to me like Haye could have spilt everything else 50:50 and have been prepared to make a bit less from Germany and then the fight would have went ahead. There was no mention of options etc so I assume it all boiled down to money.
Haye would have made far more from this than a fight against Audley, which is only marketable in the UK. Anyone else and I wouldn't be so gutted, but Haye has done everything right so far in his career and along with Froch, looked like someone who was really prepared to take on anyone anywhere.

Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
Whats disappointing about this?
Basically Haye offered the Klits two solutions for them to offer the fight to the highest bidder and split 50-50
When Klit didnt want that because of his exclusive RTL contract he said fine you take German TV money ill take UK tv money everything else split it down the middle
Why is that an unfair proposition? Basically Klit wantsa percentage of Hayes uk tv money why does he deserve any of that?
In terms of the American tv money that is only brought to the table by HAye as they have stated they are not interested in any Klit fight that doesnt involve Haye

Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
my only problem with this, is why take so long to come out and say it????
he said the other week il let everyone know whats really gone on and il expose all.
if it was me and the klitschkos were asking for stupid amounts of money and percentages, i would just come out and say it there and then, he made out as tho he had some big secret about why the fight didnt happen, saying in a few days he will let every1 know and reveal all.
he should have just come out the day he knew they wanted everything there own way, and said listen guys the fight doesnt look like its going to happen as there asking for too much. all this keeping the fans in the dark was stupid, and made haye look like a bit of a fool, who was scared of fighting the klitschkos.
im a big haye fan, but i cant help but feel a little let down by the way haye handled himself over the last few months,

Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
I haven't seen the video yet as at work but from what I read on espn it looks even worse by Haye.
From that I read I think Haye is complaining that the pot (that would be split 50-50) is smaller than it could be as Klitchko has his RTL deal, whereas they could sell the fight for more there if he did not. Therefore Haye wants Wlad to add the extra money they would have got into the pot. Effectively Haye is asking for the bigger split!
His alternative would still see him walk away with more due to the ppv money likely being higher than the standard rtl payment.

Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
He doesn't come over very well on that video. He's been banging on for the best part of two years about how he was going to restore some pride back into the heavyweight division and then comes up with a pretty lame excuse as to why he isn't fighting arguably the two best boxers at the weight. IMO he doesn't deserve a 50/50 and why/how on Earth would the Klitschkos fight on a different TV channel if they are contracted to RTL?
I am still a fan of David Haye but I'm starting to lose a little faith.

Thats my take on it. If Haye was serious about being the best and getting a Klit in the ring then the potential extra money from Germany would NOT be a stumbling block for the fight.CJB wrote: From that I read I think Haye is complaining that the pot (that would be split 50-50) is smaller than it could be as Klitchko has his RTL deal, whereas they could sell the fight for more there if he did not. I am a huge Haye fan and believe he has a real chance against either Klit (I actually think he has a better chance against Vitali, unlike many) and his career to date has been fantastic. However I can't pretend not to be disappointed when yet again another potentially huge fight that should be made falls apart. Bloody boxing

Haye is saying, you keep the German t.v cash and i will keep the British and go 50-50 on the rest. The Klits know SBO will make a fortune whereas i think their fights are on free t.v over there so are saying no.

Precisely. If you want to take on the biggest names in your division and make a name, then sometimes you have to swallow the short end of the purse. Why on earth would either of the Klits offer Haye parity - they don't need to.MachoMan09 wrote:Exactly.Counter-puncher wrote:MachoMan09 wrote:Haye wanted a 50/50 split and Wlad (rightly) told him to eff off.

Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
Lost respect for Haye over this. Why should he be looking for Klitschkos to break contract with their TV provider. I bet the extra that the other german company pay( if indeed it is extra) would be dwarfed by the legal bills and fees that Vladimir would have to fork out. Its a slam dunk case for breach of contract
As for Sky Box Office, Klitschko should get a peice if it because he will help sell it. They'll probably be showing his form from a few years back when he was very aggressive, no doubt a drago reference or two will be thrown in and they will make him look like a monster. Or they could play him as the gentle giant and Haye as the loudmouth punk, and play on peoples sentiments that way. Or they could go for the simple p4p route that helped sell Haton v Pacman. Numerous ways of marketing this fight which will do huge numbers. Why should Haye get to keep all of that money?

Haye comes across as a wanker in the video. Looking forward to seeing him sparked. If he ever fights a Klitschko, he will get KO'd and he knows it.
Re: Haye explains why Klitschko fight didn't happen
He has a press conf next week!! so I gues more will be revealed!!
