Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs

I think it's fair to say Sam speaks accurately about heavyweight boxing at the mo, and this interview tells how dedicated to his preparations and how confident he is for his bout this weekend against Chisora.

I think you will find Chisora knocks him out. Sexton has improved but so has Chisora. Back to the 6 rounders for Sam after saturday?

Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
A 50/50 fight for me. No way is this cut and dry for Chisora or Sexton. I think its the most intriguing fight of the night (although Barker v Macklin would have been).
Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
Chisora is glorified, if you look at the facts and his record. He hadn't even been scheduled for a title or 12 rounder prior to fighting for the British, which lasted 2 rounds against a push over Williams, for what currently is a token title. Chisora knows this too, and that's why he's never shows his belt in public or at press conferences, as no one can give him real credit for pushing over Williams.Carlos-Wigan wrote:I think you will find Chisora knocks him out. - Chisora has never been in fights or fought the calibre of fighters Sexton has
- Chisora has not grown anywhere near the amount Sexton has in comparison and in their first fight, Chisora and Sexton where rather even, with Sexton nicking it before the unnecessary stoppage with 30 seconds left
- Chisora's last couple fights have been walk overs, any fit boxer would have won them fights, against awful opponents - Carl Baker and a completely shot Williams, that Carl Baker previously put down in a round not so long before
- Chisora does not have the boxing ability or shows the ring knowledge of Sexton
- Sexton has never trained as long for a fight or been so dedicated to his training camp
On paper this is Sextons and if it was not for their first fight and Chisora getting the lucky stoppage.. Sexton would be clear favourite.
But think what you will. Chisora will loose Saturday.
Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
I think Sexton takes this.
Beating Rogan twice is decent form and I am just not that sold on Del Boy
Could be wrong - rarely am lol

Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
This is going to be an interesting fight. The thing that impresses me most about Sexton is he doesn't shy away from a challenge. I personally feel Chisora is maybe the better overall fighter, but can see a Sexton win, so I will sit on the fence for this and just enjoy the action.
Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
I fancy Chis to stop Sexton.
I believe Chis is more aggressive and powerful than Rogan, and Rogan had Sexton in big trouble in their first fight.
Sexton is a lovely boxer, and I think he will win his fair share of rounds on the back foot, but I truly believe Chis will catch and punish him.

Rogan should have beaten Sexton in their first fight, he was lucky the ref didn`tg stop it. It was only Rogan`s inexperience that saved sexton that night.
He did deserve the win in the rematch though, thought he boxed well that night.
I think it it goes the distance Sexton might take this one, but I can only see one winner by KO and that`s Chisora.

Sorry going in completely a different direction - Boxrec's Jon Briggs.... I immediately thought of the kids programme set up north.
Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
Johnny briggs was no Grange Hill. And to get it back to boxing Stupot is now a ring announcer, saw him at the big bill at upton park when Chisora beat williams.

Terrez, you are Sexton's mate - I understand, I would be the same you know but you are coming on a boxing forum and what you have written above is completely biased. Lets study the facts.terrez wrote:Chisora is glorified, if you look at the facts and his record. Sexton nor Chisora have done 12 rounds. And it is Sexton who has had problems with the longer distance.
Your claim about Sexton being robbed of a win and the stoppage being unjust and premature is to be found nowhere and not colluded with fact. Even Sexton admits he lost fair and square and he would come back to be a better fighter - which in fairness - he has - I don't believe however that he can keep off Chisora for 8 rounds - never mind 12.
To say Chisora hasn't got the ring knowledge or nous of Sexton? You must be having a laugh - one fighter has won an ABA title - remind us who that was again?
As for Sexton and his training and his commitment - the same could be said for Chisora - who is to say otherwise - neither of us thats for sure.
Lets make this interesting Terrez, if your boy wins the fight next week - I will put a picture of Sam Sexton holding the British title aloft on my avatar for the next 12 months - if Chisora wins next week - you put a victorious picture of Chisora as your avatar for the next three months. Now thats a biggie for me because I can't stand Sexton (or more accurately - the way he won his fight vs Rogan the first time round) and he may win on saturday - it will just make it more fun when he does come across someone who will KO him - it won't be long either way.

I, too, like Sexton's chances. He has got to be one of the most improved fighters around the domestic scene. Since his loss he's gone on to win Prizefighter by boxing everyone's ears off, and what he did to Rogan speaks for itself. Conversely, Chisora, even though he's British champ, has stagnated for the last few years. Sexton to stop him in 10 rounds.
Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
Interesting but Sextons win on the weekend is joy enough for me, I never have and never will gamble anything on him. I have no desire for you to put a picture or a boxer of an avatar you don't like. Thing is I don't dislike Chisora and if he does well in his career and gets to the top, I will be backing him regardless. I met Chisora after Sexton's first fight with him, shook his hand congratulated him on beating a good man, and had a chat, hes a nice enough guy.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Terrez, you are Sexton's mate - I understand, I would be the same you know but you are coming on a boxing forum and what you have written above is completely biased. We could debate the issues we've bought up for weeks as it's all preference, but as the fight is in 2 days and I'm off to Birmingham soon, I have no need and I'll let Sextons win speak for it's self.
Yes Chisora has a punchers chance and I don't deny he's a good boxer, but Sam has grown beyond Chisora, that is clear for all to see, sam is the best boxer at heavyweight on the domestic scene and Chisora over the last few years has hardly faced the likes of Sexton. Sexton how ever has been in 2 wars with Rogan and that for me is where Sexton learnt and earnt his upper hand in the fight.
Hopefully when he wins on Saturday you might get behind your new British and Commonwealth champ and realise that Sexton has done things the hard way to get there and Chisora undeniably has has an easy ride in comparison. If you're annoyed about Sexton v Rogan 1, then look at Sexton v Rogan 2, Sam boxed beautiful that night and 100% deserved the win.
Chisora should have been thrown out against Butlin but the ref didn't see the ear bite. If any boxer sould be disliked for something he done i the ring, that's it right there.
Enjoy the fight Carlos, it's ok to like Sam when he wins as he will have earnt it the hard way ad there's no shame in that.

I am a Norwich boy and would love Sexton to go as far as possible in the game as I'm a big fan and he is a nice bloke to boot (despite your weird dislike Carlos), but please get some perspective. This is a tough fight for Sam and he won't have it all his own way in there, although I feel exactly the same way about Chisora. It's a real 50/50 fight - no way either of them completely destroys the other.
Fight of the night for me.
Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
The points I brought up are true, read though then all with a bit of thought and I'm not over zealous about Sexton, I'm weighing up his advantages. I've followed British Heavyweight so very closely since Sams turned pro including Chisora, I've seen every fight a few times of most the top domestic heavyweights at the mo.
I fully understand that this is a tough fight for both boxers and Chisora does have a chance of course, but then I also know that Sexton has had better fights and won brawls, wars and titles since to prepare him for this fight, beyond that of what Chisora has done. You can't deny that.
I conceded that Chisora has a chance and I always have known that, it's heavyweight boxing and he's a decent boxer. He's just not as good as Sexton all the facts and what they have achieved in the past few years support that. If you can't see that then I'm not the one being bias. Of course I support Sam, but that doesn't mean I can't logically weigh up the facts.
Sexton stoppage by 9th.

Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
I wouldn't say I have a 'weird dislike' for Sexton, HS. I am sure he is a very nice man and a good father/husband and son. I didn't like the way he fawrangled his way to winning against Rogan - for me Rogan was a shot in the arm boxing needed and it was derailed by Sexton winning in that manner. But then again Sexton went back to the Belfast cauldron and beat Rogan again so play to him on that score.Happy Slapper wrote: I agree. If Sexton does beat Chisora, then yes, he will have earned my respect (not that Sexton will care but) and I will be happy to put a Sexton avatar on my profile come Monday morning, he will have deserved it. However, there is nothing I can see where Sexton is going to pull it off - though it will be a damn good fight and an attractive clash of styles.
Re: Sam Sexton interview with Boxrec's Jon Briggs
Carlos, what are you talking about, pal? Sexton got a lot of shite for that fight, before and after, and a lot of it was unjustified. If you're talking about that killer right hand Sexton threw against an inexperienced Rogan then you need to watch it again. It was an absolute nothing punch.

Sexton deserved the shite thrown at him that night, then again, it was Rogan's fault for letting him off the hook when he could have finished the fight off once and for all. I'll be honest here, Sexton deserves total props for going back to Belfast and beating him again - this time more convincingly - he has got big balls for going back there thats for sure.Dioufy wrote:Carlos, what are you talking about, pal? Anyway, it has nothing to do with what is going to happen on Saturday, Chisora will not be as sporting as Rogan thats for sure!

Do you remember all that crap with Sexton standing in front of that mural? Apparently it was a loyalist one. It wasn't. It was a harmless painting on a wall. Nothing to do with politics or religion. A lot of ill-feeling still lingers for Sexton after that, and he did nothing wrong.Carlos-Wigan wrote:Sexton deserved the shite thrown at him that night, then again, it was Rogan's fault for letting him off the hook when he could have finished the fight off once and for all. Now we are going on to the mural now? I don't know anything about it, you certainly don't and I am sure Sexton was unaware of it. Rogan got pissed off about it but he apologized and admitted it was all a big misunderstanding. And I have never heard of Sexton getting grief since so who is giving out the ill feeling and where... I don't know.Dioufy wrote:Do you remember all that crap with Sexton standing in front of that mural? Apparently it was a loyalist one. It wasn't. It was a harmless painting on a wall.
