I thought it was a good performance from Johnny Nelson to beat the previously unbeaten Alexander Petkovic in Germany last night - and a decent enough fight. I certainly wouldn't have labelled it a "snoozefest" as SecondsOut.com do. Their whole summing up of the fight is too harsh:

Disagree with you, the journalist did say Johnny easily beat Petkovic. Which he did.
IMO
1) Was it a snooze fest ............. YES.
2) Was Petkovic crap ................. YES.
3) Did Secondsout discribe Nelson's tactics well ........... YES.
4) Was Nelson call in out RJJ tongue in cheek ....... YES.
Don't think it was harsh at all.

I think we have to remember that Nelson was the first British fighter to win in Germany since Glenn Catley stopped Markus Beyer in May 2000. Surely that counts for something! A win in Germany always counts for something. Certainly the judges did their best to take it away from the champion.
Make no mistake, if the fight had been any closer, Nelson would have been robbed.

He did more than just call him out, he made the claim he could beat him.steve689 wrote:Why not call out the golden goose? Pure folly.

I agree with Bennie. Judging by the time it was published (Sunday evening), I reckon Evans penned that report with help from the wires without switching on his telly.
The action wasnt edge of your seat but Nelson won comfortably (by 7 points on my card) against a young, unbeaten fighter on home soil who many believed was going to take the title.
Nelson's pre and post-fight comments wear thin, but his performance was his best since Dominguez. Aside from Guilermo Jones, nobody has beat him in 11 defences. It's very easy to knock Nelson but he's successful.
