Just seen the Pacquiao vs Barrera fight on BBC2. Im totally stunned by the way Manny Pacquiao destroyed Barrera.Ive never seen Barrera beaten up fight as much!! Manny Pacquiao did what MAB did to Naz but only better!
Maybe if our man Naz had adopted a similiar strategy instead of posing & worrying about the laundry rota during his build up he could have dumped Barrera.............well the blueprint is there now,should he want a rematch!
Finally got round to watching this fight last night. Great fight, (held in the correct spirit too). I just couldn't believe just how much Barrera was whinning though. He was looking for a way out of that fight after the first third and was basically being a big girl.
Yeah Pacquio did not put a foot wrong all night. He the man.
Another thing I noticed. Roach works his corner very well. Every round he had a simple instruction which he repeated until he was understood. He also didn't talk any sh*t which you hear so often comming from a corner.

To be fair mate cornermen always look good when their fighter is kicking the other guys arse. Roach wasn't a whole lot of help to Michael Moorer when Holyfield was bouncing him off the canvas in 97.

I hear what you're saying Kilburn ,but you surely got to give credit where credit is due.I think Roach did an excellent job even Manny Steward wouldn't better that!
If the fight had lasted one more round Barrera would have been KO'd and you cant ask more from the Manny Pac-Man team.
I also remember Moorer was like a tub of lard when he lost to Holyfeild,so not all the blame should be accredited to Roach.

By the time Naz had gotten to MAB, he had dissapeared up his own fundament, quite an achievement when your ego is as outsized as Naseem's had become.
He stopped listening to anyone, Ingle told him what to do, and wasn't down with the media star Hamed alter-ego, so he was first sacked as manager, then finally trainer. Then Suarez was brought in, who didn't know know shite, which is what Hamed liked, but he must have realised that he needed something, so in comes Steward (overrated trainer in my opinion, used to be good, but spreads himself too thin now) to work his mojo, and then Naz ignores Steward.
I think that Roach would have told Hamed to go fornicate himself after a few months, when he realised that Hamed had no intention of working hard.
Hamed sadly was the victim of his own success going to his head, he forgot that without Ingle, all he would have been is a lairy jug-eared liitle spratt, Hamed began to believe that his talent really was god given, as opposed to something refined in the Gym.
Hamed had enormous amounts of talent, I really think he could have been an all time great, but his unorthodox style needed to be finely honed. When he worked with Steward, it was clear that Hamed no longer knew exactly what his style was. Against Calvo he looked amazingly ordinary, he was a fighter without an identity.
I think Steward was the wrong choice of trainer for Hamed, but aside from Ingle, I don't know who else could have tolerated working with him, and actually taught him something at the same time.
In answer to your question, I think Roach would have quit before Hamed even made it to the fight with MAB.

What like he did with Moorer?
I'm not looking for a ruck with anyone but I don't think Freddy Roach should suddenly be elevated to the top of the P4P trainer rankings (not that I care much about who is supposedly the best man around) just because Manny Paquiao toppled Barrera using his trademark speed and power punching. It's not like Roach improved Paquiao's style or was required to instill confidence into his fighter.
The Filipino at 24 is obviously getting near a positively frightening physical peak. It's going take a hell of a fighter to beat him now.
