The most reliable date of birth for Cameron, the first man to teach the world middleweight champion Tiger Flowers to box, is 7 May 1887 in Rusk, Texas. He died in Los Angeles on 24 November 1943 when a date of birth of 7 May 1887 was listed on the official register. Cameron gave his date of birth as 7 May 1889 in Los Angeles when he signed up for the draft in 1917 and his occupation as prize fighter, but his parents married in Rusk, Texas, in 1876 and were still living there in 1900, when Cameron was listed as 13 and born in Texas May 1887.
