VIP Boxing News ..... Show Postponement

Post by Stegsie »

COLNE SHOW NOW THE 8th OCTOBER 2010 – Due to pull outs and other issues this Friday evenings show has been put back for 2 weeks , people can just use the same tickets for the event. We apologize for any inconveniences put assure you this change is to ensure the event will be value for money.

KIERAN FARRELL – Fresh from a victory last Friday and now with the hunger back will be added to the Colne show.

CARL DILKS – Talked a good fight for his opportunity against James Degale but was not allowed to have one when referee Howard Foster stopped the contest with 6 seconds on the 1st round left. Carl had not had a good round but was not hurt at anytime and although against the ropes under attack not one of the flurry of punches had got through and the premature stoppage made it an easy win for the golden boy. Degale was always going to be quick in the early rounds for Carl and the plan was to get passed the fourth round and then really take it to him and test his fitness and durability – everyone in team Dilks is disappointed that we never got the chance to find out what Degale is made of and indeed it must seem like a shallow victory for James.

VELEDROME 17TH SEPTEMBER 2010 – This turned into a cracking event and a full report on the 10 fights are available on http://www.vipboxing.com

One day you'll take losing on the chin. Do you honestly think Dilks would reach the 3rd round let alone the 4th?
Howard Foster is not to blame, one of the best referees in the country.
"easy win for the golden boy"
"shallow victory for James"

Stinks of pure bitterness, something of a regular occurance from you Stegsie.

No bitterness meant, I think the tone of the post may have been misconstrued, mate. I post the VIP Boxing News and don't think it's overly bitter at all.

To be fair, a lot of people thought the fight was stopped early - not just the Dilks / VIP Team.

The stoppage was shocking, but Dilks was probably getting whipped anyway.

The problem for VIP is that the lads are matched so soft, generally with the weakest journeymen on the circuit..... then they get chucked in at the deep end.

Steve Wood needs to be much more assertive in his matchmaking to allow the lads to achieve their full potential.

If they lose, so what. Get back on the horse.

Worked for a certain person posting in this thread.

I thought Carl was very honest on his post the other day about that;

I'm more embarrssed about the fight more than anything I was able to carry on an didn't realise wot was going on with the ref at first that's why there was no reaction I thought I was getting a standing count then realised dnt get them in pro fights! Must say thow the kid has talent I only wish I could have abit more time to show wot I had but it wernt to be!

I agree that the VIP matchmaking isnt the strongest. The results are a formality TBH.

To be fair, there DOES seem to be a habit of stopping opponents against these prospects a touch early. I'm not saying that anything dodgy is going on, just that refs do seem quite quick to jump in.

I totally agree, I said before the fight to anyone who asked that Dilks wouldn't last 2 rounds and it would be stopped this way with no knockdowns. Nothing dodgy from the refs of course, I just don't really know what it is. Maybe the handspeed and punch volume from them(which is very good) is something only a few "old" pros have shown?

I dunno :TU:
