FORMER European boxing champion Gary Jacobs today walked free from a Class A drugs charge.
Ex-Welterweight Jacobs (37) was alleged to have been in possession of seven Ecstasy pills when detained by police in April.
But the Crown accepted a not guilty plea on the charge, which could have seen Jacobs imprisoned.
Jacobs, however, admitted failing to provide a breath test after being stopped on suspicion of drink driving on the same evening, April 14.
It was alleged Ecstasy tablets were found on the father-of-three, of Newton Mearns, near Glasgow, during a search at Stewart Street police station.
But, following talks between prosecutors and Jacobs' legal team, a not guilty plea was today negotiated between the parties.
The decision comes as welcome relief to Jacobs, who has suffered a string of misfortunes since retiring in 1998.
He lost almost £600,000 after his gym in Glasgow's Shawlands went bust and bankruptcy followed over unpaid council tax bills on his luxury home.
A charity fight-night organised with Paul Weir - the shamed ex-boxer jailed last month for cannabis supply - also became shrouded in controversy when only 25% of the £32,000 raised went to Yorkhill Sick Kids Hospital once promoters had taken their cut.
Jacobs, once voted the country's top boxer, will reappear at Glasgow Sheriff Court next month for sentencing.
