Anyone watch the Hamburg card on Eurosport last night. Although the fights were a little bit average (Stipe Drews was the main event - if he could learn to place his front foot as he punched he could be a world champ), I thought Holdsworth's commentary was hilarious - yes, he rambles a bit but at least he says what he thinks.

I had the misfortune to watch Stipe Drews fight Silvio Branco from ringside in Berlin in February. Talk about two runners.
I agree that Holdsworth is a good commentator. He's very relaxed and is very fan-orientated. No doubt about it, Holdsworth is one of the best.

Holdsworth really is very popular within the boxing community isn't he?

Maybe the BBC should look at him?

Thing is BBC 'people' tend to work for the BBC exclusively don't they? Can't really see them contracting Holdsworth to just commentate on boxing for them.

Goz - Holdsworth's style doesn't match what the BBC are looking for - he is a maverick who will say what he thinks regardless of the politics of the situation (I loved his line last night "You have to hand it to the matchmakers. Its a difficult job,they travel the world looking for terrible match-ups and alwys succeed). To succeed on mainstream TV you have to show some sensitivities to the "home-netwqork" fighter.

That's why I like Steve Holdsworth, because he doesn't jump on fighters/promoters/managers wangs.

John Craven was a maverick so there is a precedent...

holdsworth said he doesnt want a partner when doing fights, only specials guests, dont think holdsworth likes the bbc, he was only on there once and said to me never again would he do a bbc show , never told me the reason,

I also like Holdsworth, he says whathe thinks and does not care who agrees or disagrees. Eurosport show some dodgy matches on a regular basis but Boxing Boxing, it would be boring if we saw the mega stars all the time and watching those obscure Romanian tuesday night cards now and again is refreshing. At least they show Boxing on a regular basis too which keeps me ticking over nicely, as for last nights action well....Drews looked ok at first when keeping it long and switch hitting but he seemed to tire dramatically and started to trade on the inside and ship shots more frequently. In fact when Micky Vann stopped the contest Beard was in the process of landing a good left right combination if you watch closely, Drews is a monster but i think he would struggle if he left the comforts of the EBU title, although saying that it was my first look at him and i might have to investigate him more often before i make a solid judgement on him. The Light Heavyweight division though could do with all the stars it gets at the moment
