Arthur hangs fire on Gomez rematch

FORMER British super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur has rejected the offer an immediate rematch with Michael Gomez.
But the Scot denied he is ducking out of fighting the Mancunian who beat him in five savage rounds at Edinburgh's Meadowbank Stadium last month.
Arthur said: "I'm asking our mutual promoter allegedly to let Gomez go for the world title first.
"If he wins then I would like to be matched with him for the British and world titles in Edinburgh.
"That would be a mega-contest and the first time Edinburgh has hosted a world title fight."
Gomez and his manager Billy Graham complained that Meadowbank wasn't big enough to hold the numbers who wanted to see the first fight. So it is unlikely they would approve the venue for a second meeting.

British and World titles, simultaniously?? Its obviously going to be a crappy WBF, IBO, WBU world title shot.

I'm sure if Gomez went the WBO route then he'd forget about his British belt, after all he holds the lonsdale for keeps now.

Why is Arthur so arrogant as to suggest that if Gomez does indeed win a world title that he would be first in the queue for a shot at it...????

God...I dislike Arthur a great deal.....

I'd hope it was held in Manchester to be honest.

For all Arthur's hype and arrogance, it doesn't sounds as though 2 months will be long enough for him to master defending against left hooks.

Gomez definitly has the mental edge...

His indecision is final...first he doesn't want a rematch, then last week he does and now...he doesn't? Arthur's begining to sound like a politician.

And it wont be the first world title fight in Edinburgh, far from it, it'd be a WBU fight.

Sounds like he's having trouble coming to terms with his first loss.

Gomez called his bluff and Arthur has made himself look a ...insert whatever you want here...

Now he has the cheek to say to Gomez, I will be your first challenger when you have won the world title, but it must be in my home town of Edinburgh.

Unbelievable! Arthur is fast losing support from followers like myself with his continued warblings.

I actually think his ego is out of control to be honest.

Same here. Im English, but supported Arthur. There's no way I'd lose support for a fighter for losing, or for taking a one-sided beating. But he has conducted himself with no honour since and I'm looking forward to seeing him beat again (fickle aren't I?).

If Arthur keeps this up, I fear he'll start losing the support of Loftgroov too....

I kind of lost support for Arthur the night he beat Willie Limmond. His pre fight behaviour showed little respect for an undefeated fighter and to his old cornerman, who apparently he left on good terms.

Never really rated him that highly as a fight, to little head movement, a leaky defence. Good offensively no doubt - but always was much bigger than his opponents and seemed to bully them.

He came against someone a little decent and got exposed, same thing will happen to Audley I fear.

Absolutely, I'm not really a Gomez fan but Arthur should have to go to the MEN for a rematch.

Gomez came to Arthur's hometown and punched his face in, now AAA needs to do something to get back any of the respect he has left and he is losing it all very fast.
