Harrison's never held the British title.
Harrison relinquished the European title because of injury, not because he was getting a World title shot.

There's no rule says you have to.

Typically, challenging for a world title signifies you're ready to step up in class (or at least, someone thinks you're ready). Obviously some come straight back with a crash but there is no actual BBBoC rule that says you must vacate.

Is his bloke for real?

Maybe it's Tyson Fury living in hope?

Chisora is under no obligation to defend either British or Commonwealth titles for another 9 months if he doesn't want to. Sexton was the mandatory for the British and Dereck was for the Commonwealth he won from Sexton.

 :shame:

I'm curious too.

The EBU have one but it is caveated, the BBBoC (who govern British, English, Area and Commonwealth title fights) don't.

sorry to be pedantic but the Commonwealth Council govern the Commonwealth title, not the Board. Simon Block once had a key role for both but no longer works for the Board.

Good point. Threw me because the bbboc keep mentioning the Commonwealth in their rules.

The CW rule is pretty clear:

http://www.commboxing.com/rules.html

"In the event of a Commonwealth Champion winning a World Championship the Board shall automatically declare vacant the Championship in the relevant weight category, whether or not the World Championship is recognised by the Board or any Controlling Body."
