Ricky Hatton looking healthy after Priory stint

Looking a lot brighter and healthier.

Ricky Hatton has finally left the Priory after his stint in rehab - and has bought a puppy for his fiancée in a bid to get himself out of the doghouse too.

The Manchester-based boxing star checked into the Cheshire branch of the clinic last month after claims he snorted cocaine in a hotel room.

But one of the first things he did on his release this week was to buy a cute chihuahua pup for fiancee Jennifer Dooley.

On Tuesday, flanked by Jennifer, 31, and looking refreshed and around a stone lighter, the former world champ popped in unannounced to a pet shop in Swinton near Manchester to pick up the pooch.

Store manager Chris Hunter, 42, revealed it was the second time Ricky had visited.

Fighting fit: Ricky at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in April last year before his losing bout against Manny Pacquiao
She said: 'I'd just come back from my lunch break and walked past him and his girlfriend. I didn't realise who it was at first.

'They were looking at a shih tzu but then they saw the chihuahua and went for that.

'He already has a shih tzu called Franny Lee that he got from here about two-and-a-half-years ago and he is really happy with it. He said the new dog would be a companion for it.

'They both posed for pictures and seemed really happy.'

A customer at the store, who did not wish to be named, said: 'He was laughing and joking with everyone and seemed well.'

Before admitting himself to the Priory, Hatton had confessed he was battling depression and an alcohol problem in the wake of two high-profile defeats in the ring.

The boxer - nicknamed The Hitman - has vowed to get better and concentrate on his career out of the ring as a promoter.

A source close to the former light-welterweight and welterweight champion said: 'It's not been the best of times but he is out now and looking much better.

'Jennifer loves dogs and it was something he wanted to do for her.'

He hit the headlines last month after video footage emerged of him appearing to snort lines of the drug at a Manchester hotel during a night out.

But how many impressionable kids will now be inspired to snort cocaine in "industrial quantities?"

Has he lost weight or has his missus just, as it looks, been to soccer worlkd to buy him some supsiciously looking new clobber in XXL to make him look thinnner. No one said Coke made you put weight on, did they?

Yes Hatton basked in former glories and was idolised for that. Now his credability is shot and he is nothing more than a sad junkie.

Firstly - Ricky was a good fighter and nothing more. At the top end of scale he has been hammered and not even competative.

Secondly - he is a fat little Chav who goes round cheating on his bird, drink himself to death and snorting loads of coke.

I'll remember him for being a good body puncher who rode Frank warrens cash cow until he thought he was an elite fighter. Then we all know he got destroyed and spent the last 4 years of his career as a one punch then clinch machine.

The man is a mess.

Ricky's a "good fighter".
DeGale "can't punch".
Calzaghe's "legacy is an actual joke."

I don't think I like you very much.

I have to agree, that Hatton's stature as a fighter, rests largely on a single victory over Kostya Tszyu. Like McGuigan who was fed an ageining Pedroza looking for one last payday, Ricky got Tszyu at just the right time. That was the highlight of his career.

He was briefly the best in the division, but by that time, a lot of the talent pool were ageing or retired.

Ricky was a world class fighter - but never on that elite level, nor close to it. He was in the right place at the right time. His performances post Tszyu were not terribly impressive.

Actually cokeheads are usually fat. Coke may be a stimulant, but it also allows you to drink about twice as much as you could normally handle before passing out, and encourages food binges the next day as you feel so hollow. I used to do a fair bit, and I went up to 16 stone in weight, I'm not 14 stone without even trying to maintain my weight.

thats merely anecdotal James and people can react very differently. i personally eat feck all for a couple of days after a session on the beak, and have known plenty of people, mostly women, who put on major weight after giving coke up, with the coke seemingly being at the time what kept the weight off their lardy arses. purely on an anecdotal level, like.

Nice to see him holding his birds hand after all that has happened. He does look like he has lost some weight, in fact, a lot. Is that a fur coat he is wearing? Who's that on the right? :D

he wasn't great but he was good enough on the night he had to be, and was massively successful because he had the right personality, despite being increasingly ugly to watch.

the yanks were really getting upset with his style, which went from speed, momentum and body punching to messy jab and grab against a range of world class opponents.

boxingchat seems to show indingnation whenever hatton and calzaghe make a twat out of themselves, but they are both 2 of the most successful fighters to have worked for BC's boss. maybe the best of britain, lewis aside, cannot cope with their success.

I agree with some of the points that you're making ie him not being as good as he was made out to be,him cheating on his girlfriend being out of order, etc. However some of the things you're saying are just too harsh mate!Yes he's done some stupid things, etc but he deserves another chance,if he continously screws up then fairdues but until then cut him abit of slack.

Whether or not you like him, and what he has done with the coke, he's still a human. So for that reason I'm glad to see him looking well and hope he get's his shit together.
