Saturday Fight Night

Post by alexpaterson »

2 good fights tonight! Who you got?

I think/hope Hughes has the boxing ability to outbid a slightly past it Arthur, and I think Webb will stop Conception in the late rounds. I just think he's at a higher level and that will show! Should be a good night!

bit disappointing there isn't more crack about this, specially on a boxing forum.

I think Concepcion is vulnerble....maybe chinny almost. However he is very dangerous especially early on. Having seen Concepcion up close when he was an amateur before his career went off-track, I was mightily impressed with the way that American Alfonso Gomez made him turn and quit in the Contender series.

Webb has done very well to get to where he is. I saw him at Bethnall Green in 2006 enter the ring as a 5 fight prospect to a fanfare and banners bearing his name, he got concussed by a dangerous journeyman (name escpaes me!)....he's done great to re-build.

To get people talking I am going to go for an upset tonight though, I think Concepcion's lottery number will come up, whilst he is trailing on points.

I'm looking forward to this one, when has Concepcion been in a boring fight, win or lose.
He can take anyone out of it with 1 punch, but has that weekness himself. He said as much in BN this week. I expect him to come out looking for Webb, and trying to get 1 of his bombs on target. Could happen.
Webb needs to just keep his boxing together and land compact shots , not leave himself open. Wait to take over from about round 5 onwards.

It is an interesting one as you say Conception has one punch KO power and Webb doesn't have the greatest chin. But I just think he'll be at slightly higher level and avoid the big punches early and come on strong, but if he does get caught he will be in trouble! Any thoughts on Hughes/Arthur??

I think that comes down to how much ambition Arthur has left, if it doesn't start right for him he may lose heart and desire.
Hughes is the one on the way up, not seen that much of him.
if Arthur still has title ambitions I think he'll just pip the younger guy

Hughes has started fairly well but the way he throws that right hook worries me! He drops his left slightly and leaves his chin out to dry, I fear he may get caught later but 2-0 to Badger for me!

Arthur landed better shots that round, but I didn't think he did enough to win it, Hughes produced the better boxing 3-0 hughes for me

Much better round for Arthur! He roughed Hughes up more that round. Hughes needs to fight at range because he doesn't fight inside he let's Arthur take it! If he gets his boxing going Hughes can win. 3-1 Hughes

Another round for Arthur but the point deduction was fair. Hughes needs to get the boxing together and keep it at range, he can't find Arthurs fight because he's coming of second best 3-1-1

The commentary is a joke. Arthur dominates from round two on. All Hughes does is cry about low-blows.

Hughles does land nothing. He´s not boxing, he´s getting pushed around and roughed up.

Better round for Hughes IMO I thought he boxed better that round and when it got inside he tidied up. 4-2-1 Hughes for me but it has been a tough one to score

Hughes needs to really step it up now in the next few rounds, he isn't looking great. To be honest I thought Hughes would step up to the mark tonight but I don't see it so far. I have it pretty much even steven so far can't split them, Hughes really needs to commit to his boxing and be prepared to take the odd shot.

I felt Hughes is boxing better the last few, but he hasn't looked great. I've got it 5-2-1 maybe a bit bias but it has been hard to split them

I wanted Hughes to win but just dont see he's doing enough so far. Stilll got it even, each round I give to Hughes, there seems to be another round where Hughes does nowt and I give it to Arthur on workrate/coming forward.

I have hedged out on betfair. Had a few quid on Hughes, but don't trust that he is doing well enough to win!

Good round for Arthur there he landed the cleaner shots and never let Hughes settle. 5-4-1 Hughes for me it's all still to play for!

Another point off for Arthur. 2 points off can see Hughes taking this by default.

Hughes has really disappointed me. He looked so good on the way up, such a tidy boxer, but really doesn't have a lot of power for the pro game.
