After seeing the Khan figures I also decided to check out how Boxing did on ITV with Fat Mick from last year here are the figures

04/10/09 Thaxton-Melero 295,000 (ITV4 #5)

08/11/09 Williams-Sosnowski 260,000 (ITV4 #10)

03/10/09 Murray-Thaxton 212,000 (ITV4 #5)

28/11/09 Barker-Butler 299,000 (ITV #5)

The sad reality is that Boxing doesn’t do such great numbers I’m afraid. On ITV4 Boxing was regularly outdone by AUF WIEDERSEHEN, PET. And on Sky, Boxing gets outdone by Darts although it has to be taken into account that it is shown on a Thursday at a much more favourable time. Anyway I’m going to continue looking through figures and I will add them on as I find them.

Just shows how much the public know about boxing: Cotto v Magarito gets 14,000 and was a modern day classic, whilst Khan v Kritiansen gets nearly 4 million.

terrestrial TV makes all the difference

I think it is due to the fact that when most of the boxing coverage that was on itv and bbc ended and moved to sky,the general public didn't recognise the boxers anymore. When i first got into boxing about 1981 i could talk about boxing to my mates and they knew most of the big names, but as the years went on and sky tv arrived i noticed that the fighters i was watching were basically unknown outside of the real hardcore fans, only last week i mentioned froch to a group of lads and half of them didn't know who i was on about. :(

Very true. I had a group of mates round for the Magnificent Seven and most of them had never heared of any of the fighters. I`d been looking forward to it for weeks, but they didn`t give two shats to be honest.

ESB isnt all that bad then hey :TU:

This is one of my favourite threads on ESB tbh there are some interesting points to note from the figures Audley draws more, Matt Hatton draws a few more purely because of his name prizefighter did used to do 30% more but that is now diminishing Khan draws massive numbers still.
