Can you name every British world champ?
Just put together this quiz. See how you get on.
http://www.sporcle.com/games/oliverf/ukworldchamps
NB1: Linear and big 4 belts only (no WBU, WBF etc)
NB2: Includes N. Ireland boxers
NB3: Multiple-weight champs are listed only once
NB4: Surnames only are acceptable
If I've missed any, please let me know.
And no spoilers in the thread for those who haven't yet played!

Re: Can you name every British world champ?
Cheers for the fills, but FFS there doesn't appear to be an edit feature after the game has gone live, so I can't add them. That also represents a problem when new champs come along.
So, if any are missing, good idea to post them in this thread. Otherwise, please don't post answers which are present and correct.
Bigmark, just be grateful there's no Dariusz Michaczewski, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk or Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in there!

Re: Can you name every British world champ?
Yes. I think he was born in London but otherwise was born and raised American. He just wanted to cash in on the pro-Lewis/pro-Bruno bandwagon... and to add a bit of spice to his fight with Hide. He was certainly never mentioned as British before that.stujones wrote:Maurice Hope was the one I was typing and typing with nothing.... is Michael Bentt classed as American?

Though I still maintain Robbie was at his utter best--technically & physically--the night he fought Alberto Jiminez for the WBO title. Right hard little fecker was that Jiminez; I thought Regan boxed wonderfully, but the Mexican was supreme that night.King Geedorah wrote:Remember his EBU win over Luigi Camputaro. It was a grueller. Regan decided to try out a new pair of booth and ended up with painful blisters on his feet but battled through to take the title. Used to enjoy watching him fight. Thanks for the blast from the pastMachoMan09 wrote:Good game. Robbie Regan is missing, mate.
There were loads of shite-hot Mexicans who came over during the 90's, that's what got me following Latin boxing (Goyo Vargas, Marcos Villasana, Jiminez, , Jose Luis Lopez, that's a bit of a murderer's row just there)...

Posted the game on Budweiser Boxing in the History section.
They are saying that there's no Maurice Hope or Wayne McCullough. Not sure if true but they tried.
Great game though, Oliver, and the boffs are enjoying it.

Re: Can you name every British world champ?
really enjoyed that got 32. But when the answers came up at the end there was a couple I spelt wrong & a load that I should have known!
Re: Can you name every British world champ?
Also Missing Robbie Regan, Ola Afolabi, would have had over 50 without spelling mistakes.
Re: Can you name every British world champ?
Got 41 and head went blank, no Wayne McCullough, very well done though

I typed in Ola Afolabi......didn't he take a belt off Enzo?? I also typed in Wayne Mcculloch I assumed he must be full on Irish so not eligible......Quite embarrassingly one of the biggest names of the 90s and British Boxing history (he liked leopard print and Allah
I had assumed Tony Sibson was a World Champ judging off comments I've read on here in the past....

Lloyd Honeyghan mate.....I spelt it with a bit of luck but even tho I knew who I meant it took his name a while to come, I got Don Curry straight away lolsg1985 wrote:He is, I just finished it, I was disappointed to only get 29. I missed some really obvious ones too, I spent about five minutes trying to spell Holeyghan.Kit wrote:Also I dont remember seeing Benny Lynch on there.
