Here in Massachusetts the Golden Gloves are held in Lowell, MA (there are others NE regions that also hold preliminaries, but all the finals are in Lowell). It is year 65 for the tournament, which will cover the Greater Lowell open and and novice events and the New England open and novice semi-final and final matches. It is nine nights of boxing starting January 14th and ending February 23rd (one or two nights per week). In my opinion, the venue (Lowell Memorial Auditorium) is excellent for boxing. It is an older building in good repair with no seat too far from the ring (it has a lower lever and balcony).
Our group has a set routine. We drive up from the Boston area on the early side, have a beer, buy our 50/50 raffles and get to our seats (season tickets) for the bouts. There is always an intermission period, where we go out to the lobby and discuss who impressed us and other boxing topics (over another beer, of course). After the bouts we go to Hynes Tavern in Lowell for a couple of low priced PBRs and more boxing conversation.
The season ticket application came today and I was curious about other Golden gloves tournaments and traditions.
